It's Cinco de Mayo!

Image
I loved the pics from last year's celebration, that I thought (especially since Gibson and Harley are still recuperating from their CCL injuries) I would share them once again while wishing everyone a fun and "paw"some day filled with partying and yummy treats! Happy Cinco de Mayo! Woo!

Flashback Friday #29: Puppy Originals

Image
"Time flies, but the memories collected along the way can never be replaced." ~Ashley Tisdale With most of my photography today being shot digitally, I love coming across actual photos...it's like a sudden surprise that takes me back to when the moment was frozen in time on film. A moment I can hold in my hand and gaze upon as it drifts me back in time. While I do love the digital technology of today, there is just something about the feel and smell of a photograph. About the same way I feel about newspapers - reading them online can be such a convenience, but this old-school photojournalist still loves the feel and snap to an actual newspaper! This photo flashes back to when Gibson and Harley (our two "Originals" as I like to refer to them, the leaders of our FiveSibes pack family) where just pups. Gibson, who was about six months old here, was even smaller than Harley, who was just a year-and-a-half old pup herself! My how times have changed...now Gib...

Of Injuries, Rehab, and Healing of Huskies

Image
Love is...sharing rehab together! 'Tis the season for rehabbing Huskies here...I haven't done an update in quite some time, so I thought I'd bring everyone up to speed on what's happening here. As you recall, Chloe, who was just four years old, had double bilateral cruciate imbrication surgery last summer. She, I am happy to report, is progressing nicely! Where she had no ability to stand or walk after collapsing from a simple jump up on the bed only to discover she had shredded both hind CCLs and mensiscuses (deemed most likely from a genetic problem as she was from an irresponsible breeder). While there is a hitch to her gait now, she now can jump up on furniture, counter surf (which we discourage, however, seeing her stand up on the counter for the first time in almost a year was just wonderful! So I reached for my camera to capture it!), run with her with siblings, and even kick up dirt with her hind legs! Oh happy days! Gibson also tore his CCL while pla...

Flashback Friday #28: Hidden Treasures of Our Lives Reside on Memory Lane

Image
"The heart that truly loves never forgets."   ~Proverb For the past few days, I've been sorting through one of my closets in an effort of spring cleaning. This one particular closet had never been emptied out to the walls since we first built our house in 1990! But instead of it being a real chore, I've been enjoying sorting through the hidden treasure of our lives as there in boxes were some photos that captured wonderful memories of years past.  There hiding behind the folds of clothing were some of my daughter's infant and childhood toys, her first rocking horse from my mother for her First Christmas, my Lamaze class book, holiday cards, and many photographs, including ones of my daughter as a baby, playing on the floor with her Nanny, holidays with cousins, merry-go-round rides with her father and I, vacation photos of a much younger hubby and I when we were first married, and photos of past pets that have now journeyed beyond the Rainbow Bridge. Eac...

Earth Day 2013 - The (Furry) Faces of Climate Change; Helping to Reduce Our Pets' Carbon Pawprints

Image
The FiveSibes love the Earth and sure hopes everyone else does, too. After all, it's the only planet we have and if we don't care for it, who will? We must think not just of ourselves, but of future generations as well. This year, we are joining in the Earth Day 2013 "Faces of Climate Change," so let's be good to our Earth. Here at the FiveSibes, we have some tips to measure your dog's carbon pawprint. For a full (free) version of my Earth Day article and photos, please visit page 24 of the recent issues (Vol.2/Issue 2) of AMERICAN PET MAGAZINE . Here's a sneak peak: Here's some tips from my article to help everyone "think green" when it comes to our pets and their pet care, and help to reduce not only our carbon footprints, but their carbon pawprints as well: Walk your dog whenever possible instead of going by car. Use recycle shopping bags when going grocery shopping for your supplies and food. Feed your pet their food ...
