Lovely September Token on a Flashback Friday!

Image
"By all these lovely tokens September days are here, With summer's best of weather And autumn's best of cheer." ~Helen Hunt Jackson September is my favorite month! It's not just because it's my birth month, but because it truly is a lovely time of year giving us both Summer and Autumn in one month! While still summer for most, the morning air becomes tinged with a coolness hinting at the soon to arrive Autumn with its crisp air and Mother Nature's beautiful palette of colors, a glorious time of year! With our oppressive summer heat wave finally coming to a close just yesterday after two months of the highest humidity we have seen in long time, I am looking forward to Autumn's arrival even more! While long days of summer bring about a relaxing time, when no one seems in a rush and happiness is lounging around with iced drinks and splashing in the pool, this summer with all of its hotter-than-hot heat and humidity did not seem to allow much mo...

It's a National Howliday for Us Dogs!

Image
Woo! While every day is Dog Day here at FiveSibes, who are we to argue with a national holiday just for canines, right?  I mean, what dog wouldn't want extra hugs and some special treats, and doesn't that all just go paw-in-paw with it being a holiday?! Today, we are enjoying the "howliday" by just lazing on the shady deck poolside enjoying the beautiful breeze together, which is a real treat since the weather had been so steamy and humid the past month. So this is a real treat!  National Dog Day was created by lifestyle expert and pet advocate to encourage people to Colleen Paige, who also is tops in our books as she also created some other pretty special bark-worthy howlidays, including  National Cat Day, National Puppy Day, National Mutt Day, National Horse Protection Day, National Kids & Pets Day and National Specially-Abled Pets Day, and one I just did an article on for 4Knines, National Beach Day ! "National Dog Day celebrates all breeds...

#FiveSibes Flashback Friday: Gib, Pool's Open!

Image
I remember this sweet day so clearly, it was June 2015...unbeknownst to me at the time, it was my Gibson's last summer with us. My husband had just opened our pool for the season and Gibbie and I just "chilled out" on the deck together. My big fluffy buddy boy. My spirit guide. My furry best friend. My Epi warrior. My heart dog. Gibson was the lover of the pack of FiveSibes. He was such a gentle soul. We had that magical human-canine connection; we could communicate without saying a word. He was such an amazing dog. I'm so glad for all the memories, and so happy for each and every moment spent with him and all of my FiveSibes! After we go through the pain of losing our furry best friend, and learning to live without them, what we have left are all those amazing moments spent together. While bittersweet, they fill my heart with love all over again each time I revisit one of those special moments with him caught on film. "Today's special moments are tomor...

Wolf, Siberian Husky Nurse on Duty!

Image
Wolf, Siberian Husky Nurse (S.H.N.) on Duty! My boy, Wolfie, (Gibson's little bro) has been living up to his "working breed" classification as he has been a very good furry nurse keeping an eye on me while I recuperate from acute bronchitis. He sleeps right on my feet, and hasn't let me out of his sight!   🐾 🐾 It's (Almost) Wordless Wednesday!

What a Fantastic Friday! #TheSibeVibe Anniversary, Watch Eyes #Book Trilogy by Joanne Sundell, A #Giveaway & Flashbacks All on National Dog Day!

Image
" Woo! You can win these amazing books! Keep reading!" What a fantastic Friday this is! We've had a rough week this past week with three of us being in "sick bay," hence  my brief absence, but that's a story for tomorrow! Today, there is just so much to celebrate and talk about! First up, it is the fourth anniversary of the very first air date of my show, "The Sibe Vibe" on Dog Works Radio ! On August 26, 2012, we chatted with amazing folks from the Siberian Husky Rescue of Florida! The show is produced by my co-host, Robert Forto, who is also a dog trainer and behaviorist, and lead musher of Team Ineka in Willow, Alaska, where my show is produced. Earlier this summer, Robert along with his wife, Michele, also a dog trainer and behaviorist, took a month off to come down to visit the lower 48 for their 2016 "Rock n' Roller" tour that began in Colorado.  Robert and I at our live taping of "The Sibe Vibe" in New York! ...

It's National Dog Day: Happy is Spelled D-O-G!

Image
"Happy" is Spelled D - O - G! Today is National Dog Day! While every day is "dog day" here, it is nice to have a special date to remind us about how special our dogs are, what we've learned from them, and that not all dogs are as fortunate as ours having loving families to be spoiled by and wonderful homes to live in. The numbers of dogs across the breeds; just the number of Huskies alone, who are homeless and waiting in shelters to be adopted or fostered, is just staggering. I'd love to see everyone take today (or any/every day) to not only appreciate the wonder of our beloved dogs, but to also think about a homeless dog in a nearby shelter. Maybe stop by for a quick visit, give a hug and treat, maybe ask to take the dog out for a walk, and bring a less fortunate dog some cheer so he/she can have a happy National Dog Day, too. And, please, don't overlook the special needs dogs. They deserve love, too! Maybe you can become an advocate for the sh...

Brrrr, Baby It's Cold Outside. Sharing ASPCA Cold Weather Tips for Pet Safety

Image
Cold, snow and 4-foot icicles! The Northeast and New England has been hammered with what the media is referring to as a "biblical" number of snowstorms, blizzards, and hurricane-like winds, and record-breaking bitter cold temperatures in a decade! We are currently under more than two feet of snow, with another storm on its way this upcoming week. The temperatures have plummeted to below zero, with up to 35 mph winds, and  dangerous wind chills-tonight alone it's 4 ℉, but, with the bitter Arctic-like winds, registering -20℉ - -30 ℉ ! If your dogs can go out in the yard and free run, please keep a watch on them that they are not left out too long in case you get distracted by the phone, text, or TV show. Also, be sure to have their collars and tags on in case they escape. With snow, it's much more difficult for them to find their way home. Be sure their microchip info is up-to-date as well.  Even though we have "snow dogs" - Siberian Huskies, this...
