Flashback Friday: Thank You, Vet Techs!

We are a week late for National Vet Tech Week (October 15-21), so we are highlighting it for our Flashback Friday as my Sibes and I wanted to be sure to recognize all the amazing Vet Techs out there who care so loving care for our pets and assist our vets! I am especially grateful to all our FiveSibes Vet Techs at Kingston Animal Hospital who have continuously over the years love and care for our Husky babies. They are not just our furbabies' caregivers, they are family!

Also a special shout-out to research specialist Julie Nettifee, RVT, BS, VTS (Neurology) at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine who I have the privilege of working with on Canine Epilepsy awareness through my FiveSibes #LiveGibStrong K-9 Epilepsy Awareness Campaign! We love Howloween here! Okay, in full disclosure, we love Halloween TREATS here! Anything with pumpkin, apple, and spice!  Mmmm.... 

Today's flashback is from a few Howloween's ago when our girl Bandit was patiently waiting for us to carve a Husky in the freshly picked pumpkin upon our return from the pumpkin patch! What do you and your pets like best about Howloween?

Newsy Tuesday: We're Talking Pumpkin!

It's that wonderful time of year - when the air becomes crisp, the tree leaves turn beautiful colors, and it's apple and pumpkin picking season!  While we know pumpkin is healthy for our dogs, and I highlight five of the great benefits in my article in 4Knines. Our FiveSibes love pumpkin! Woo-Woo! All Aboard the Husky Train!

 I love Flashback Fridays here at FiveSibes! It gives me that time to pause and look back over photos of the past years and relive some very special moments, although bittersweet at times since my sweet Gibson is no longer with us. But, seeing the photos and reliving those amazing moments truly puts a smile on my face. They were glorious moments, a very special time that will be part of my heart forever. I have been blessed to have these beautiful, loving and incredible dogs as part of my family, and what a wonderful life experience to have!  

This photo is especially dear as I loved how my FiveSibes always enjoyed relaxing and snoozing near each other. They would always form what I referred to as the "Husky Train" by sleeping in a row next to each other. If I did not have the beds lined up, they would still position themselves in a row! So, I took their hint and always laid the beds down next to each other, per their instructions! As you can see, we have a huge maple tree in the backyard that just lights up with brilliant colors this time of year, and this photo truly captures that in this visit to Memory Lane when a beautiful time of year was spent with five beautiful dogs that has led to the present--a beautiful time spent with four beautiful dogs, and the happy spirit of one all around us.

For the Love of Faith: Happy 17th Birthday!

There are beautiful scriptures about Faith. Songs of Faith. People have Faith. Faith is such a powerful five-letter word. And this beautiful Siberian Husky, aptly named "Faith," sure embodies the word as she is celebrating her 17th Birthday today! Faith DaBaldo's hu-mom, Jeanette, is a dear friend of mine. I first "met" beautiful Faith and Jeanette when I was hosting a photo contest here on my blog back in 2013. When I saw the photo of Faith decked out in a life jacket swimming in a pool, I thought what a pretty puppy! Only to find out this bright-eyed beautiful Husky "pup" was actually all grown up; a senior dog at 13 years of age! This led to an in-depth conversation about arthritis in senior dogs, alternative therapies, and it not only led to an article I wrote about this, but also forged a special bond of friendship between us. With having chosen alternative care for my Gibson, we chatted much about the various therapies and how our Husky babies were doing with them, and our friendship just bloomed ever since.

 "Faith: Confidence. Trust. Belief."

Fast forward four years, and Faith's beautiful face and bright blue Husky eyes still exudes so much youth and love. Faith is truly a testament to having faith and hope! You may remember I wrote a blog post (read here) and an article on her in the former American Pet Magazine (below) about the alternative treatments she was getting for her degenerative arthritis including stem cell therapy, aquatic treadmill, acupuncture, chiropractic care, massage, cold laser therapy, and Assisi loop treatments. Jeanette's quest was for the best possible care for her beloved girl.

Jeanette was also my guest on my show "The Sibe Vibe" on Dog Works Radio back in 2014 and we talked all about Faith's therapies. You can tune in here:




At the time, I quoted Jeanette as saying, "I'm not looking for the fountain of youth. I'm hopeful this will ease any pain and stiffness she may otherwise experience, and give her the quality of life she deserves."

What an incredible inspiration this story is for all of us dog parents! Trust your instincts with your dog's care, have a good relationship with your vet, research, research, and research some more, and have faith in the care route you choose for your dog for it truly is a journey you will travel together. I know firsthand from my experience with Gibson, each and every time you overcome a medical hurdle, it truly is a miraculous feeling, and you have faith to continue on.

With Faith celebrating her 17th Birthday and looking every bit as young and beautiful as she did when I first saw her lovely photo at age 13, sure makes me think Jeanette may just have indeed discovered that canine fountain of youth.

 If you follow us here or on our FiveSibes Facebook page, you know how my boy Wolf and Faith have "a thing!" They've wooed to each via Skype, send puppy love letters to each other, and we sure do have a bit of fun with them! So, naturally, Wolfie left a message on our driveway for his sweetheart, Faith, on her special day...
