#FiveSibes Flashback Friday: A Journey Toward A Husky's Holistic Healing

Flashback: Gibson and Hu-Mommy, December 2014 With this being the month of Purple Day® and awareness for dogs with Canine Epilepsy, I was going over my journey with my beloved Gibson. Today's Flashback photo is when Gibson and I did a long-distance Reiki session with Marta Banat of All Paws Massage in Canada. I am an advocate of holitic healing and natural care, but I had never had any experience with Reiki. I went into it journaling the event, and you can read all about our experience HERE in my post. It was a wonderful, peaceful bonding time for my boy and I, and when you share your life with a dog that has epilepsy, all the natural methods of surrounding them in a peaceful environment is so important. This is now a moment in time that resides in my heart forever, and am forever grateful for my daughter capturing his moment on film. “What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.”   ― Karl Lagerfeld ...

đź’ś Remembering Gibson đź’ś

Image
Gibson Les Paul of Mystic Mountain "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; all that we love deeply becomes a part of us." ~Helen Keller Today dawned gloomily with the heavens crying crystalized tears of frozen rain. Seems very appropriate for the third anniversary of my beloved Gibson earning his furangel wings. It is surreal that it is now three years. One month after my dear mother passed. I can close my eyes and be transported back to that day...that season...but choose not to. Gibson was not only a big fluffy wooly Siberian Husky boy (tipping scales throughout his life from 98 to 120 back to 98 pounds), but he had heart and soul bigger than the sky. He loved life. He never let Canine Epilepsy keep him from enjoying all that life offered. I am so proud he became, and still is, the face of Canine Epilepsy and the positive and inspirational message of hope and how amazing these dogs are. His courage and zest for life is what I hold dear and celebrate when ...

Picking a Puffy Pumpkin on a Flashback Friday!

Flashback Photo of Gibson, Autumn 2014 Ohhhh, that face. That sweet face. Gibson's face still melts my heart whenever I see a photo of him. It is hard to believe this is our third Autumn without my big, silly, loving, wooly boy. While Harley is the alpha queen, his true love, and the Pupsters' surrogate momma, Gibson was the glue that held them all together as pack. Where he went, they all followed. If it was chilly, they all huddled around him. If it was hot and he dug a massive hole under our maple tree, they all followed and dug neighboring holes to lay all around him. He was Harley's "hubby" and the Pupsters' big brother. While Huskies are known to be pretty silly, Gibson was the king of making me laugh. And he always seemed to know exactly when a laugh was needed. Even with all his challenges of living with Canine Epilepsy, if he was a human (and at times I believe he thought he was), he would have had a brave smile on his face, making sure everyone ...

Meet Maddie, an Adoptable Epi All Star!

Image
Meet beautiful Maddie! Maddie currently lives at Husky House Siberian Husky & Fellow K-9 Rescue in New Jersey. She is a sweet eight-year-old Husky/mix who was diagnosed with idiopathic Canine Epilepsy when she was four. In true Epi-dog form, Maddie does not let seizures keep her from enjoying the things she loves, such as food, tennis balls, and snuggling!  As I've always said, dogs with Canine Epilepsy, with a little extra care and lots of love, can live full happy lives! And just look at that happy, smiling face of Maddie's! She is just waiting for her forever family to come and get her! Husky House does stipulate, "Maddie needs a home that can dedicate the time and energy to figuring out her epilepsy. Maddie currently experiences cluster seizures requiring hospitalization at times despite the use of at-home rescue meds. She will need a calm, patient, loving family who can understand and help he with her medical issues." Could that family be you...

Preparing Your Epi-Dog For The Solar Eclipse

Image
Article Updated 04/04/2024   T here is a lot of buzz about the upcoming solar eclipse, especially for folks who are in the path of totality. No matter where you live, if you plan on watching the solar eclipse, aside from protecting your eyes from “eclipse blindness” with special American Astronomical Society approved eclipse glasses, but did you know that the eclipse could have an affect on your Epi-dog (epileptic dog)? With the simulation of “night” as the sun is covered by the moon, animals may go into a nocturnal mode, or seem restless or confused, while others, will be unfazed. However, the excitement of the eclipse by humans could create excitement in our dogs, whether they have epilepsy or not, as they pick up on our energy and moods. The same as with non-epileptic dogs, if there is a lot of noise, whistling, clapping, or fireworks to celebrate, dogs could be frightened and attempt to escape. As with any loud or stressful holiday or event, be sure to have your pet...
