Flashback Friday: An "A" for Bee

Image
It's official! The kiddos are all settled back in school for another year. It's class time not only for the hu-kids, but for the pups as well! Today we are flashing back to 2014 when our Pupster girl, Bandit, all decked out in her new backpack and bandana, was all ready for school! I had enrolled her in some one-on-one classes for what I originally thought was a hearing problem, but am pretty convinced now it was more of an attention issue. After getting a few tips, with a little extra TLC and treats, she has been back on track ever since! (Unless, of course, a squirrel, opossum, woodchuck, or bird visits our yard)! But I think our Bee gets an "A" for her spiffy Back-to-K9-School outfit! And what did Bee learn in class? That...   S - Siberian Huskies C - Can H - Have O - Oodles O – Of L – Learning fun! Have your pups been enrolled in school?  If so, what was their favorite part of class?  You're Invited!   ...

Moore Husky on a Merry Meme Monday!

Image
What a great pic submitted by Angela Moore of her beautiful Husky, "Sasha!" Angela tells me that her Sasha was "adopted her from our local animal shelter last year. I was told she is a pure breed, but I'm not sure. She was kept strictly outside before, so, not housebroken. She'd just had a litter of puppies, and her breeders decided they didn't want her anymore. 😕  When we took her home, she was fearful, distant, and sad. She has changed a lot in a year, though. She may be car sick, and skittish, but she's totally adorable and greatly loved! She and her 'sister,' Rizzi, get along great, too!" Lucky Sasha! We had so many great captions suggested for this wonderful photo, too! I was thrilled when my caption was selected from the submissions by fans of our FiveSibes: Siberian Husky K9 News & Reviews Facebook page!  To view past memes featured on FiveSibes, visit HERE. Newsy Tuesday: Exciting Writing Award!

Image
In the words of my FiveSibes, "Wooooo!"  I have been a long-time member of the Dog Writers of America Association (DWAA), and was thrilled to have some of my work recognized! Last year's nominations included my FiveSibes "The Sibe Vibe" Dog Works Radio show on Canine Epilepsy, featuring Dr. Karen Munana and Julie Nettifee of North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine; for a photograph of Gibson, and for my humorous  "Vote Gibson!" blog post.  This year, I was once again so proud to have my work receive nominations for a  photo of Wolf  and for my blog article on my two shelter dogs I adopted from our local SPCA. But, to have received the news that I won the prestigious Maxwell Medallion medal for my blog article, out of 8 other finalists who are all talented writers, I am honored! As a career photojournalist, at the end of the day, it has always been my sincere hope that my stories touch people in a special and unique way....

Father's Day Spa Day!

Image
Tub time for Wolf! Happy Father's Day to all Dads of human children and furkids! We hope your day is very special! Here at FiveSibes, the Huskies not only celebrated the day with their super (p)awesome Hu-Dad with some ice cream cake, but it was also "Spa Day" here! Our groomer came to our house, and with the assistance of my son-in-law, gave our pups a good  blow out, brushing, and bath just in time for summer! Our yard sure looked as if we had some sudden snow "furries!" A few birds even swooped down while the Huskies were being blown out and snatched up some of the precious Husky fur for their nests! Now those will be some very comfy and warm nests for their babies for sure! Following their spa treatment, they snoozed inside in the cool house for a bit before joining the family for some delicious dairy-fresh vanilla ice cream! Here's a photo essay highlighting their day!   Wolf enjoyed the blow out! Bye-bye undercoat!   H...

A Chat With Gibson Marks 6-Month Anniversary

Image
A chat with Gibson. ( Video may not play on mobile devices ). Today marks the six-month anniversary of the day that my sweet big wooly boy, Gibson, journeyed North of the Rainbow Bridge. I so miss him. I loved and miss all of our wonderful "conversations," how he would say, "Love You!" and the stomping of his big polar bear paw for emphasis! The above video clip is bittersweet - bitter, of course, because he is no longer physically here, but oh-so-sweet because the memory brings a smile to my face and just floods me with joy as I remember all the wonderful days like this one. With all the challenges he faced being an Epi-dog, he was beautiful, brave, so very silly, and just the happiest Husky! He was, and always will be, my inspiration to push on during the hard times, lay back and enjoy the good times, and always greet each day with a big smile, just like he did. Six months. Half a year. So very hard to believe. “The strangeness of Time. ...

Happy Birthday, Hu-Dad!

Image
For our Hu-Dad ...who gives us love and treats, and literally builds a roof over our head so the icky rain doesn't touch our precious Siberian Husky fur when we lounge out on the deck.   For our Hu-Dad ...who pets us as we take over the living room floor, couch, chairs, bed, everywhere!  For our Hu-Dad ...who never flinches at our vet bills (okay, maybe he winces a bit).    For Hu-Dad who...fixes all our messes (we did not chew the deck rails, windowsills, kitchen cabinet corners, bottom of chairs, or the cookbooks - that was Gibbie! - Okay, maybe we three Pupsters had something to do with the windowsills...and maybe the deck rails...and okay, maybe we took a few chomps on the bottom of the chairs...but the cookbooks  were all Gibson)!  For our Hu-Dad ...who runs out at the midnight hour when Hu-Mom suddenly realizes we may be low on food (sorry, Hu-Mom, but sometimes you do!).    For our Hu-Dad who...makes sure the...

Flashback Friday: Huskies Take Manhattan!

Image
Photographic rendering. Gibson Over Manhattan Today's Flashback Friday dates back to 2012, when my photographs were selected to be part of the Creative Rising See.Me digital art exhibit in New York City. I was contacted after the show with a special announcement that one of my photographs would join other photographers and artists from around the globe in a skycraper show in Manhattan - my photo of Gibson was shown at 11:32 PM on Saturday, October 5, 2012!   Photo courtesy of See.Me Times Square Skyscraper Gibson Adorned. This was my See.Me artist statement: I am a photojournalist, author, blogger, and parent to one daughter and five Siberian Huskies. I have been a photographer and animal lover for almost my whole life! Through my photos, I love to not only tell stories, but capture a mood; a moment in the life of my Huskies (known as the FiveSibes™), one of which was diagnosed with Canine Epilepsy in 2009. Their innocence, dev...
