#FBF: A Snow Dog's Wintry Frozen Nose!

Image
FiveSibes #Flashback ~ "Bandit" - Winter 2015       "When life grows cold a dog will warm your soul."  ~Angie Weiland-Crosby    B rrrrr....the weather for this weekend here in this area is a major snowstorm weahter forecasters are predicting will affect "200 million Americans" and will affects many states from Colorado to Oklahoma to Massachusetts, with some areas getting up to two feet of snow! Our area is supposedly  12" - 15" range. The temps here have been in the negatives and single digits, so Old Man Winter is right in his prime! Which brings me to this week's #FlashbackFriday pic of our girl Bandit, who after a similarly freezing cold and snowy winter, along with all of our FiveSibes, decided to go dip her nose in the frozen tundra while out for a quick run in the yard. Bandit loved to play snowplow and use her snout to push through the snow. When I called to her, this was the pic I snapped, with a chuckle, as her whiskers were e...

Scrub-a-Dub...FiveSibes in the Tub!

Image
As we know, bath and grooming days for a Siberian Husky is an adventure! This past Friday was spa time at our FiveSibes homestead and prior to the actual bath time, I posted this pic of our Harley queen reigning over the empty bathtub on our FiveSibes Facebook page , and we had readers comment about how well our Sibes behave during bath and grooming time. For starters are very fortunate enough to have a groomer who does house calls and has become very familiar with my Huskies over the years. Previously, we did a drop-off at a grooming parlor, but it was traumatic for both Huskies, the staff, and me! Gibson even managed to get himself out of their kennel one time and was meandering around the room on his own! A real Husky Houdini! I love having my Sibes groomed in their own home environment, and since my diagnosis of Rhuemetoid Arthritis now prevents me from helping, my wonderful future son-in-law stepped in to help keep our Huskies feeling calm by assisting the groomer and supportin...

Woo! It's Flashback to Stuffing Time, a Canine Cooking Corner Thanksgiving Recipe, and Epi-Tip #21!

Image
This week coming up it's time for Thanksgiving preparations and turkey, sweet potatoes, green beans, the parade, and a food coma for all! So we thought it was fitting for our Flashback Friday photo to be one of my all-time favorites from 2010 when Harley was five, Gibson four, and the Pupsters were just mere pups at two! I had just placed the pan of stuffing on the kitchen window sill to cool off, when what should appear? Piercing blue eyes! Now while they could not have stuffing (onions and garlic - no-nos for the furkids), they did enjoy my recipe for their own Turkey MishMash! (Recipe below): And joining us this week is co-host, those beautiful Sibes and their mom from Love is Being Owned by a Husky blog! Be sure to stop by and visit them and our hoppers! And we do hope you'll grab some pics of "yesteryear" of your pets and join in our weekly hop as we stroll down Memory Lane.   Happy Almost Thanksgiving Flashback Friday!!!...

Meet Jack, An Epi All Star ~ And Gibson's #LiveGibStrong Epi-Tip #2!

Image
Meet Jack! He's a sled dog in Alberta, Canada. And he has Canine Epilepsy. But, being an Epi-dog doesn't stop this strikingly handsome Husky from loving exercise. While he is a big boy with lots of energy, he is a puppy at heart!  Since being diagnosed with Canine Epilepsy, Jack's family is going to retire him from his job as a sled dog and they are now seeking a wonderful, loving stable home environment where a family will take the time to exercise him and work with him on leash manners, and while his epilepsy is at the level where he does not need to be medicated, he does need a family who will keep an eye on his medical condition. Jack deserves a home where he will be spoiled! A little fun trivia about Jack - How did he get his name? Because many people say with his unique Husky markings, he looks like a giant Jack Russell Terrier, so he was named Jack! According to the folks from Operation Sled Dogs , Jack is a very sweet boy who is very happy to sit by ...

Cash is Waiting For You...

Image
"Wooo! My name is Cash...and I'm waiting for you! Aren't I cutie? If you love Siberian  Huskies, are familiar with our breed (yes, we can be tricky little Huskies), have time, love, and, energy to spare...I'm just the boy for you!" Just like "the man in black" Johnny Cash, which is who Cash was named after, he has a story to tell, too! Maybe there will be a song written about him! Now wouldn't that be cool...and if one of you wonderful folks would foster or adopt him, we can give his song a happy ending! And you can help...even if you can't foster or adopt Cash, you can share his story! And as our motto here at the FiveSibes has always been: A little about Cash...he's just a pup - about a year young - and would love a family of his own to play with and grow up with. He was rescued from the North Carolina heat, where he was chained up short, many times without food or water. His fur was matted, flea-infested, and burned but ...

Happy Birthday, USA!

Image
Woooo! Today is Independence Day - America's Birthday - and on the Fourth of July we enjoy so many traditions, such as parades, barbeques, picnics, yard games, swimming, and watching brilliant fireworks' displays. Today symbolizes an unofficial official start to summer time and fun time! Along with the holiday, comes some cautions for our pets. Topping the list is fireworks. While we may enjoy them, a lot of pets do not. They can cause fright, anxiety, and stress for many animals. Then, of course, there is lots of delicious human food around, but not everything we eat is safe for our pets to eat. Here's Wolf with a few friendly tips to help everyone in our families - pets and humans - have a safe, happy, and fun Fourth of July: A nother good thing to keep handy is your emergency vet hospital telephone number, or if you are away, the number of the nearest emergency clinic. And don't forget to leave it posted at home for your pup sitter's information. ...
