Puppies Are Not Toys! And An ASPCA Holiday Gift Pack Giveaway!

Image
Tha nks, Free Spirit Siberian Husky Rescue for this message . This holiday season , we are joining in the effort to educate folks on not getting puppies or dogs for a Chris tm as present unless they've fully done their homework on the breed ...and not to buy one from a pet store ( and not to support puppy mills). Please take a few minutes to take the ASPCA's " No Pet Store Puppies" pledge and share with others in case they are not aware. If  you know of someone who is not aware of what pupp y mills are, have them check out th e Humane Society of America's website . A pupp y mill is no life for a dog. If we all join together to reinforce the information that too many puppies are given for gifts for the "awwww" factor, then are sadly dumped or abandoned soon after the last of the decorations are packed away, then may be we can save a life . If you know of someone who is thinking about giving a child a puppy this holiday season, please consider ...

Cesar Millan's Birthday Wish to Help Homeless & Abandoned Dogs and Promote Children's Educational Curriculum for Schools

Image
Woos! Happy Birthday, Cesar! Happy Birthday to the Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan ! His birthday wish is to raise, " $42,000 to support dogs through The Millan Foundation. Your donations will go towards the rescue, rehabilitation, and re-homing of abused and abandoned dogs, as well as the expansion of the Mutt-i-grees® Curriculum that uses dogs to help teach children social and emotional learning in schools." What a great wish! Even if we can't donate money, by helping to spread the word of his birthday wish, we can hopefully help raise funds for these great programs that benefit our furry pals and hu-kids too!  Just a reminder that my original Hurricane Disaster Pet Preparedness post from Thursday has been updated with other sites and resources that may be of assistance if you or someone you know is affected by Hurricane Irene. Just remember, no one is alone. There are some pretty wonderful people out there willing to help folks and their pets. Many shelte...

Even in this Sibe Household, June is "Adopt a Cat Month" or Maybe "Cat Adopt a Human Month!"

Chloe spots a visitor in the yard.. . "Harley, who is that kitty with Smokie?" "Chloe, if I can't eat it or chase it, I don't care." "Wooo...Harley, he's getting really close..."   "Wooo...Smokie, who is your new little furpal?"   "Meowwww. Why Chloe, that's my new friend Binx. He's homeless, just like I was." Binx...come join our family! Gibson says "hi" to Smokie. So the story of our kitties goes like this. Over three years ago, a starving and frightened long-haired gray kitten (a/k/a the honorary Husky cat), whom we named Smokie, sauntered by our house and met my daughter who immediately felt sorry for the beautiful, although very skinny stray. She fed her some salmon, and well, as they say, the rest is history! She never left us. I had checked the lost and found in the papers, the announcement board at the vet's, called several other area vet's and the SPCA to see if there...

Of Spa Days and Snow Furries

Image
The (clean) Girls The (clean) Boys It's been "spa" days at the FiveSibes residence, with last weekend being the girls' turn, and this past weekend was the boys' turn. The bath water was so brown, the groomer said they white pups were "stained." Now there's something we were never told before, but then again, this year they made it their #1 Top Priority to dig every possible inch of backyard dirt into what really resembles a meteorite crater. Mix in a very rainy spring, and there's a recipe for the muddiest mud puddles ever. Thankfully, they cleaned up pretty well!  Paws are looking good, too! All the vampire nails are nice and manicured, and all the boys' shaggies are trimmed neatly. I have to say it's quite a trip to listen to them as they are bathed, blown dry, clipped, and pedicured. Each one brings their own personality to the experience. Harley, our alpha queen, wife to Gibson, and the pups' surrogate mother, morphs in...
