Together Again for Burgers on a #FlashbackFriday!

Flashback Photo: My full FiveSibes pack family, September 2015

I love this photo, and the memory more! It brings me right back to that moment in time as though it were yesterday. I remember coming home with burgers for my FiveSibes, and even before I stepped outside, those super sniffers knew I had food! Even with all their excitement, they always were a very polite pack and waited patiently for me to give them the chow-down OK! Chloe was the sweetest of the pack, but also the loudest when it came to food and definitely the pack chow hound! Notice she is front and center to that burger! When I took this pic, I loved it immediately because their personalities and love of food really shined through! My dear FiveSibes, together again, even if for just a moment.

So, if life throws you a burger, eat (and enjoy) it!

A Birthday Fond(ant)ly Remembered

Flashback Photo ~ Gibson & Hu-Mom ~ September 2015

Tomorrow is my birthday, and this one from five years ago always springs to mind. What a birthday this was! At the time, I had been on a special diet for my health and feeling quite grumpy because my acupuncturist had me on a detoxing plan, so all I pretty much ate was seeds and dirt--hence the grumpiness. My husband and daughter went back and forth on whether to get me a cake, knowing I was on the special diet. Ultimately, they decided to get one, because what's a birthday without a cake? Even if I couldn't eat it, I could still enjoy the ceremony surrounding it.

They totally surprised me with this beautiful cake complete with a portrait of my beloved heart dog, Gibson, on the icing! It was truly a work of art! The cake was so pretty, for a moment, I thought about saving the top! (Confession time: a few years earlier they had a custom cake made with five fondant Huskies on top, and while they eagerly waited to eat the creative sweets, I did not let them because, yup, I saved them! Even sprayed those delectable Huskies with clear acrylic! They are still proudly perched in my curio cabinet)

I loved that cake. And yes, I did eat a piece! Even Gibbie liked it! (Well, more liked he enjoyed sneaking in some licks as you can see in the bottom photo!) Sigh...little did I know that this would be the last birthday he would be celebrating with me as he made his journey to north of the Rainbow Bridge that December.

It truly is so important to cherish each and every special moment as they are happening for they truly are memories in the making.

Oh, and every birthday since, I still jokingly hear about how I would not my family eat those fondant Huskies!

Remembering Our Beautiful Queen, Harley ❤️

Flashback: Our Beautiful FiveSibes alpha queen "Harley" ~ October 2018

Time is indeed surreal. One year ago, on September 13th, on a beautiful sunny pre-Autumn day, our beautiful beloved Nanuk "Harley" Mari, our FiveSibes alpha queen, earned her furangel wings at home, in her favorite place--in our yard out on our deck, with her hu-family and fur family beside her.

Our family's first Siberian Husky, my daughter's beloved dog, Harley was an absolutely amazing girl. She knew just how beautiful she was, too! Super smart, she ruled the Husky roost at our house! Harley was full of sass and spunk, and could chase her tail until the sun set! She loved Fetch! and never wanted us to stop playing! She accepted every Husky we added to our family after her, becoming Gibson's true love (oh, was he ever smitten with her!), and a wonderful "momma" to the three pupsters Wolfie, Chloe, and Bandit when we brought them home.

This beauty queen could at times be "Snarley Harley" when she needed some quiet time of her own, but always loved her pack family and would snuggle up with them. She howled proudly on top of her lungs, out of tune to the point neighbors once thought she was injured! The pack would woo and bark at her until she howled first. Then they would join in the chorus, but never without her leading them in song. Her favorite things were running in the snow in the winter and splashing in the pool in the summer! In my daughter's words, "She was the most bad-ass dog ever."

When she grew older and went deaf, you'd never know it. She understood sign language perfectly! I had always thought Harley would live really long, and while we were blessed to have her for 14-and-a-half years, it's just never long enough.

Harley loved life, her pack family, and us ~ and oh, how we loved her. There will never be another dog like her. Always a part of our hearts, we miss our girl dearly.

On this one year anniversary of her earning that silver harness, may she and Gibson and pupster Chloe be having some fun zoomies, and be snuggling up together, in those forever snowy fields, north of the Rainbow Bridge, all the while feeling our infinite love.

Thank you for all the joy, fun, and love you brought us. We miss and love you for aways, Momma Har.

“I have sometimes thought of the final cause of dogs having such short lives and I am quite satisfied it is in compassion to the human race; for if we suffer so much in losing a dog after an acquaintance of ten or twelve years, what would it be if they were to live double that time? The misery of keeping a dog is his dying so soon. But, to be sure, if he lived for fifty years and then died, what would become of me?”

Labor Day Weekend #FlashbackFriday: Goodbye to Summer Fun

Flashback: Summer 2015 Wolf & Bandit in Their Pool!

Oh, where, oh, where did summer 2020 go? With all the Covid-19 regs, it hardly felt like summer at all with all our favorite places to go either closed or too crowded to even attempt. Summer 2020 sure has been a strange one, and even faster than usual. It was a big summer for us with relocating, helping Wolfie and Bandit adjust to a new place, the coronavirus...so lots of adjustments. All in all, we are all looking forward to Fall! Bring on the crisp, cooler temps, the gorgeous changing colors of the leaves, sweaters and sweatshirts, boots, and everything pumpkin! My two FiveSibes and I are ready! Are you?

Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Gibson Just Chillin' on #FlashbackFriday!

Summer 2015 FiveSibes Flashback ~ My boy, Gibson

Oh, my sweet boy Gibson...unbeknownst to me at the time, this was to be his last summer here was with us. Oh, how Gib loved the pool! And, when he wasn't splashing around with the rest of the FiveSibes, he loved to just chill poolside in front of the fan! This particular morning, I was enjoying a cup of coffee out on the deck, with Gibbie lying by my feet. Even now, when I close my eyes, I can still feel his weight and soft wooly fur upon my toes, and I smile for awhile at the dear memory.

Celebrating the New Year on #FlashbackFriday

FiveSibes Flashback of party boy Gibson ~ New Year 2015. Oh, that beautiful face still melts my heart.

We here at FiveSibes look back and fondly remember, with smiles and tears, our furangels Gibson, Harley, and Chloe. This year was so quiet as we welcomed in a new year with just Wolfie and Bandit as Harley and Chloe spent their first as the Rainbow Bridge. While our hearts miss our beauties, I am focusing on looking ahead to a new year filled with joy and adventures and hoping Wolfie and Bandit will be with us for a long time to come.

This year, in memory of my beloved cousin and childhood best friend, Debra Ann, who passed way too young earlier this year quite suddenly from an illness, I made her delicious recipe--using whiskey featuring Huskies of course--for homemade Irish cream liquor in her honor (sorry pups, this on is for humans only). While most in the family knew her as "cousin Debbie," I fondly nicknamed her Dabs way back when we were just kids and it stuck. Every Christmas season Dabs would call me and ask me if I made the Irish cream and tell me to "get to it!" I really missed her phone call this year, but made sure I made her recipe. I then raised a glass in a toast to her, her first New Years in Heaven, and hoping she was busy catching up with my mom (who she always thought of as a second Mom and called her "Ma"), my dad, our cousin, uncles, and grandparents. If I know her, she has her glass all ready and making everyone laugh. She had that magical way about her, no matter the time of day or night (she lived her life by no clock!), good mood or bad, she could just make you laugh with her by a simple a turn of a phrase in a manner only she could do. I miss that, and her. Forever.

To you, Dabs, with love.

"Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne.
And for long, long ago, my dear
For long, long ago.
We'll take a cup of kindness yet
For long, long ago.
We two have run about the hills
And pulled the daisies fine;
But we've wandered manys the weary foot
Since long, long ago.
We two have paddled in the stream,
From morning sun till dine;
But seas between us broad have roared
Since long, long ago.
And there's a hand, my trusty friend!
And give us a hand of yours!
And we'll take a deep draught of good-will
For long, long ago.
For auld lang syne."

So, here's to turning that page and making new memories with Wolf and Bandit and their best little human buddy, my grandson, and new granddaughter, and going on new life adventures. May 2020 bring us all smiles, much happiness, and good health for many years down the road.

"We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called opportunity. And its first chapter is called New Year's Day." ~Edith Lovejoy Pierce

Wolfie and Bandit and I say Welcome 2020! Bring with you joy, happy memories in the making, and good health for all.
