FBF: Christmas in July With Our Pupsters

'Tis the season for Christmas in July memories! Some are so joyful, and others bittersweet. Christmas. morning 2015 is both. This was the first Christmas after my beloved Gibson earned his wings just nine days earlier, and my dear mother a month prior. I feel like that December was a blur. In some ways, it feels like just a year or two ago, not almost 11 years. Time is very surreal. This photo was taken on Christmas morning by the beautiful tree my daughter went and picked out and decorated in a different style just for me. Although I was physically there, I was filled with double grief over my losses. But this tree, surrounded by my family and our four remaining Huskies, was the spark I needed to push on. Even in loss, we can appreciate our blessings. I took solace in the fact that Gibson had to suddenly leave to keep an eye on my mother because that was my boy Gib; always looking out for me. I worried how Harley, Wolfie, Bandit, and Chloe were going to cope without Gibson. But, together, we all got through the holiday season and although grieving, we were together—my daughter, husband, and our Huskies. We shared the day together, reminisced, cried, laughed, and enjoyed seeing the Pupsters (pictured here) tear into their gifts (see the stack of new toys behind Bandit?)

Looking at this photo, I noticed two things. My pupsters were right by me. Even though they, too, were grieving the loss of their big brother, they knew I was sad. Dogs sure can sense those things. And so there they were, right by me. Gosh, how I miss them all. 
 
The other thing I noticed...Bandit is winking! 
 
What do you think Bee was winking at? That everything was going to be all right? Or...that she would be trying to steal her siblings' new toys (the Bandit that she truly was!)? Or...maybe both?

#PrayersForHarley - Dewclaw Tumor

Dewclaws. Such an unnecessary evil for a dog. In August, I noticed Harley limping. At 11-and-a-half, she is a bit stiff-legged at times from arthritis, but this was a more pronounced limp and she was having an extra tough time sitting down. She seemed very uncomfortable. She was also becoming a bit snarley, especially when I was touching her paw, which is something that never typically bothers her. Upon further checking, I noticed an odd lump around her dewclaw on her right leg, thinking it was possibly a pulled dewclaw, maybe a splinter, thistle, or even a bee sting , she became extremely agitated when I touched it.    (Warning: some photos may be somewhat graphic, but I am sharing for educational purposes).   Oddity beneath the dew claw.   Off to the vet we went. "Freedom 46"

You most likely have heard the recent news about the "Freedom 46" - the 46 dogs (mainly Cocker Spaniels, plus a few other breeds) the Oldies But Goodies (OBG) Cocker Rescue helped to rescue from a property in Virginia. It just boggles the mind that people can treat animals in this manner...we hear story after story, and in this case, these poor dogs were residing in a "hot barn without anyone to give them proper exercise or keep their water dishes filled. Many were covered with their own feces and urine. OBG worked with Animal Control and with the support of the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies to remove these dogs from that property," states Teresa Butler, the president of the OBG. "The dogs rescued from this property are now safely boarding with veterinarians that work with OBG and will be evaluated by veterinarians over the course of the next week with the goal of moving them into foster homes as quickly as possible. The Rainbow Bridge Welcomes A New FurAngel - Buddy, the Christmas Husky - A Forever Symbol of Hope for Rescued Dogs

My beloved Gibson is there. As is my Chelsey, Sandy, kitty Smokie, bunny Sunny, my fox Ah, many horses, and so many others pets. We have many furfriends who have also crossed The Rainbow Bridge. All of these beloved animals are there...so healthy and happy, with all the dogs enjoying their zoomies and playing Fetch all day in a land that is eternally beautiful. Sounds perfect. Only catch is when our devoted companions are there, we can no longer physically be with them. So while they are in a place where the spirit soars, our hearts are broken as we are missing them here with us.
