And Then There Were Two Sibes...

Image
"We miss our momma, Harley, and sister, Chloe, so much, but we're trying and doing better." So many of you have reached out to see how our Wolfgang and Bandit are doing since our beloved alpha queen Harley left us to meet our furangels Chloe and Gibson and journey to north of the Rainbow Bridge. Your support and caring has truly touched our hearts, both during Chloe's loss in June, and with Harley's passing just two months ago. This post alone I started and stopped and started and stopped for weeks. There is no sugarcoating it...it's downright sad, lonely, and so strangely quiet. While we do have Wolf and Bandit, everything here feels different. It's so surreal. My eyes still scan the yard as I mentally count for my five...even though it will be four years for Gibson in December, my heart and mind will always look for my FiveSibes, with memories flooding back of them running together so happy and free across my backyard.   Healing together...

Props to Harley and All Senior Dogs

With loss, comes not only grief, but reflection. And after losing our pack sweeheart, Chloe, back in June, it has certainly made this summer one of reflection. While as loving pet parents, we all know it is hard to wade through the sad sea, but it is also very comforting to remember the joy and happiness our dogs brought, and bring, to our lives; the very basis of our #FlashbackFriday blog hops.  The Queen reigns over the pool! This past week has seen some scary signs for our eldest Husky and our beautiful alpha queen, Harley, who is now 14.5 years old. Logically, I know it is wonderful she is 14.5 and am very aware of her shortening path in life, but seeing her face and communicating with her on a whole other level since she went deaf, is something quite miraculous. How she adapted is always a wonder to me. This past week saw her take a pretty big decline, but thankfully, she is still here with us! Her arthritis pain seem to really peak, and she was having a difficult time....

Blog the Change for Animals: Pet Fire Safety Day; Are You Prepared?

Image
Today is a double-duty day as it is not only my Flashback Friday Blog Hop, but also the Blog the Change for Animals and I am highlighting today's Pet Fire Safety Day in the  infographic below, and also flashing back to very special, heart-wrenching, and inspirational story about a family's home that caught on fire with their Siberian Husky trapped inside. I talk with the family and the heroic neighbor about the disaster, the brave firefighters who helped to save Nanuk, tips on pet fire safety, and about the community that all came forward to help a Husky and family in need. The American Kennel Club (AKC) and ADT Security Services joined together in 2007 when the first Pet Fire Safety Day debuted. Next year will be the 10th Anniversary of this important day to remind us all about preparing and planning for our pets safety should a fire ever occur. While we all hope and pray a fire never starts in our homes and that our family and furfamily members are...

Healing Through Laser Therapy ~ And~ Our November #LiveGibStrong Epi-Tip #8

Image
Here's Gibson's video of when he first began his K-LaserUSA treatments a little over four years ago, and has helped him tremendously over the years with bouts of weak hind end issues, torn CCL, and arthritis.   Today, Gibson has in-home K-Laser treatments as he was rehabbed most of the year for lameness after a fall. While it is day-by-day helping him gain more and more strength in his hind end and legs, with being in Epi-meds, it's a continuous rollercoaster of weak hind end, weak legs, treatment, healing, walking, and back to weakness again. Currently, the treatments have helped him to once again become mobile, without assistance, while reducing pain and inflammation. Since his weak hind issues are a chronic condition, I have him on a continuous treatment schedule to hopefully offset some of his weakness and keep him walking and pain free.   Issues K-Laser Treatments Can Help *: Rhinits, sinusitis Gingivitis, stomatitis and tooth extractions...

What a wonderful inspiration and example they are for us!  What our Pledge Page looks like. Click HERE. Shout It! Shout It! Shout It Out Loud! To help spread the word about our #LiveGibStrong Canine Epilepsy Awareness and rescue Huskies in need, we are hiking for pledges to help benefit the Huskies TOTTSHR saves! Woo-Scream for Ice Cream on a FiveSibes Flashback Friday!

Image
"You scream! I scream!  We all woo-scream  for Ice Cream!"  This Flashback Friday moments dates back to 2006, when my daughter was sharing her ice cream with our "originals" Harley and Gibson, who was just a puppy! You can see at nearly six months of age, he was already the same size as Harley, who was one! My wooly boy didn't stay small for long! What has stayed the same though is there love for ice cream!  Do you woo-scream for ice cream? Flashback Fridays are brought to you by us - the FiveSibes - and our co-host, Love is being owned by a Husky , each Friday. We hope you'll find a photo or video from Memory Lane, post it, and link up to our blog hop each week! If you don't catch it on Friday, you can link up any time during the week! To catch our past Flashbacks, just enter "Flashback Friday" in the search box. We hope you'll come join us!

Lumps, Bumps & Growths: Are They Normal? Maybe. But, Always Have Them Checked.

Image
Gibson and his gal Harley After a couple recent scares, I wanted to discuss lumps, bumps, and growths on a dog's skin. Recently, both Gibson and Wolf have required attention for growths.  Gibson  has had one on his right knee for almost two years. It started off as a simple skin tag. Normal color. Nothing alarming, other than I don't like bumps on my furbabies.   *There are some photos in this post that are a bit unpleasant.* Skin tag turned weird growth. But knowing dogs, like humans, can get these "tags" as they get older. I constantly monitored it and had my vet team monitor it, and we covered it when he received laser treatments. ( Laser treatments are amazing for healing wounds, arthritis, etc., but not for growths because while it works on a cellular level and is just amazing for healing, the flip side is it can stimulate growths, tumors, etc. to grow. It's always important to discuss and review your dog's case with your vet prior to sta...
