Woo! Welcome to our Blog Book Tour for my latest FiveSibes™ Tale,Wolfie,WhatistheRainbow Bridge?
It's
always exciting to see a book idea come to fruition, but this one is
especially special as my young grandson, who the best buddy to my
Siberian Husky, "Wolfie," helped me write this sweet, inspiring book
about where our beloved pets go when their time with us has come to a
close. It's hard enough for us grown-ups to come to terms with the loss
of a beloved furpal and the grieving process is painful, but can you
imagine what it is like for a child? The book is based on true events
when after a rainstorm, a beautiful rainbow appeared while my grandon,
Wolfie, and I were sitting on the front porch. The idea developed after
listening to my grandson talk to Wolfie, and the book takes it a step
further - with Wolfie speaking to my grandson!

"The love between a child and a dog is a precious bond. When it is time
for our dogs to move on to the Rainbow Bridge, it can be a very sad and
confusing time, especially for children. Wolfie, What is the Rainbow Bridge? is
a sensitively written story by award-winning author Dorothy
Wills-Raftery, along with her young grandson. It is based on a true
story how one day, Wolfie of the FiveSibes family of five Siberian
Huskies, and his best boy, Cody, talk about what the Rainbow Bridge is,
and what it means to animals. The story ends, of course, on a positive
and happy note. A must-read for any family who has lost, or is
preparing for the passing, of a beloved pet and want to help children
work through their grief in a positive way; a gentle and important
message delivered from the heart by a young boy and his beloved Siberian
Husky named Wolfie."

Dewclaws. Such an unnecessary evil for a dog. In August, I noticed Harley limping. At 11-and-a-half, she is a bit stiff-legged at times from arthritis, but this was a more pronounced limp and she was having an extra tough time sitting down. She seemed very uncomfortable. She was also becoming a bit snarley, especially when I was touching her paw, which is something that never typically bothers her. Upon further checking, I noticed an odd lump around her dewclaw on her right leg, thinking it was possibly a pulled dewclaw, maybe a splinter, thistle, or even a bee sting , she became extremely agitated when I touched it. (Warning: some photos may be somewhat graphic, but I am sharing for educational purposes). Oddity beneath the dew claw. Off to the vet we went. At the vet, Harley is protective of her paw by hiding it . Harley's paw was shaved and it uncovered a very large inflamed area surrounding the dewclaw and beyond, as you can see in ...
Original photo by and courtesy of Lisa Byrd; modified by FiveSibes The Rainbow Bridge must be some (p)awesome place to be for it has so many amazing, beautiful angel animals there. My beloved Gibson is there. As is my Chelsey, Sandy, kitty Smokie, bunny Sunny, my fox Ah, many horses, and so many others pets. We have many furfriends who have also crossed The Rainbow Bridge. All of these beloved animals are there...so healthy and happy, with all the dogs enjoying their zoomies and playing Fetch all day in a land that is eternally beautiful. Sounds perfect. Only catch is when our devoted companions are there, we can no longer physically be with them. So while they are in a place where the spirit soars, our hearts are broken as we are missing them here with us. It is a hurt we all as pet parents now way too well. And today, as unbelievable as it seems as I write this, we have to bid a final farewell to another dear furpal, Buddy, the Christmas Husky , who has now earned h...
You most likely have heard the recent news about the "Freedom 46" - the 46 dogs (mainly Cocker Spaniels, plus a few other breeds) the Oldies But Goodies (OBG) Cocker Rescue helped to rescue from a property in Virginia. It just boggles the mind that people can treat animals in this manner...we hear story after story, and in this case, these poor dogs were residing in a "hot barn without anyone to give them proper exercise or keep their water dishes filled. Many were covered with their own feces and urine. OBG worked with Animal Control and with the support of the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies to remove these dogs from that property," states Teresa Butler, the president of the OBG. "The dogs rescued from this property are now safely boarding with veterinarians that work with OBG and will be evaluated by veterinarians over the course of the next week with the goal of moving them into foster homes as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, we do n...
