The Magic of Sharing Birthdays With Huskies (And the BEST Birthday Cake Everrr!!!)

The piece de resistance ~a FiveSibes Birthday cake!

What a wonderful surprise I received today from my hubby, daughter, and the Sibe kids...the best, most beautiful Birthday cake everrrr! It was a custom-made FiveSibes Birthday cake from our local bakery complete with fondant replicas of Harley, Gibson, Wolf, Chloe, and Bandit! It was way too pretty to eat...but, after many hours of admiring it and taking lots of photos...we did eat it...But...not until after I safely removed each and every fondant Husky and carefully placed them on a plate until I can get to the craft store and purchase some shellac to preserve them and place them in my curio cabinet with my other Husky collectibles!
The totally pawsome fondant Huskies: Harley, Gibson, Chloe, Bandit & Wolf!

I don't think I could ask for a more perfect Birthday. It started off with the sun brightly shining, illuminating the beautiful beginning Autumn colors on the trees. Then, my daughter and I shared some precious mother/daughter time together over steaming mugs of pumpkin coffee as she gave me her beautiful cards and gifts. Then there were lots of Husky kisses, and yes, they did sing me a song in full Husky choir!

After a lovely dinner by the river with my hubby and daughter, and a visit with my Mom, it was back home for some Husky cake!

Gib snuck a little lick, then smiled for his picture!

Wolf posing with Hu-Mom.

After the cake, it was time for some Husky play! First up was some quality time with my boys. The best part? The Gibbie and Wolfie kisses!

Now, you maybe are asking about why there are no pics here of the girls? Because in true Siberian Husky fashion, they knew something was up. Where the boys are laid back and love to chill, Harley and Bandit had the zoomies and were way too excited for indoor manners...and Chloe was not cooperating at all. She was a bit miffed that if she couldn't eat the cake, she wanted no part of posing!
Me and my boys.

And then it was time for some group fun...a nice evening stroll in the backyard after some crazies of who went where and a few twists in the leashes (and Chloe insisting on posing with her back to the camera. She was still miffed that she didn't get any cake!) There was lots of squeaking of toys and bribing with treats to capture everyone's attention at the same daughter even made it "snow" you can see from this photo and Bandit's great expression here as she tried to catch the treat "flakes!"'s snowing...treats!!!
After much laughing, a little chaos, and a bit of Husky attitude (Chloe...)... if by magic...all the wooing, twisting, turning, laying down, and posing with the fanny side to the camera...they all turned around and faced my daughter and the camera and gave their best Sibe smiles for their Birthday present to me...a lovely furfamily photo! Awww...thanks, kids!

Many of you have sent sweet Birthday sentiments and beautiful Husky Ecards sent via Email and posted on our FiveSibes Facebook page, Twitter, Vine, and Instagram... and I just want to take a few moments to say "thank you" and that I read and love every one of them! They really added cheer to my Birthday each time I saw a message come in. Thank you again!

Did I mention I love Autumn??!! So much to celebrate! Tomorrow is another day of's my husband's (the Hu-Dad) and my 32nd wedding anniversary! Wow...time sure does fly!

Until next time...our wish is for all our furpals and families to be safe, to be well, and be sure to stop along the road while strolling together to admire the beautiful changing foliage while you breathe in the crisp, Fall air. It's a marvelous time of year!

A Wolfie Wednesday Photo Contest Update!

"Woooo! Wolf of the FiveSibes here...I just got done doing some fun Autumn evening zoomies with my packmates and wanted to take a minute to bring you up-to-date news on our "Summer Fun" Canine Photo Contest. The second round panel of judges have selected the top 22...and now we are officially in the third and final round of judging with a new panel of judges to select the actual prize winners and honorable mentions from the top finalists! We are getting closer! You guys took some amazing and beautiful photos! And please remember...if your photo did not place, it was not by any means a reflection of your dog...all the dogs were gorgeous and the photos were stunning! It was a tough, tough competition I heard, and the results were all THISCLOSE! The photos (all 162 of them!) were judged on: 1 ) summer theme, 2) dog's expression, 3) composition of photo, and 4) quality of photo. Mom says we never had to go into a third round  in our photo contests before! Stay tuned and good luck to all our gorgeous furpals!"

Help Us Help Homeless Huskies!

Woooo! We are once again participating in the annual Tails of the Tundra Siberian Husky Rescue's annual "Tails on the Trails" fundraising hike and are looking for our friends and family to sponsor the FiveSibes by pledging (any amount) to help us help the homeless Huskies helped by this wonderful rescue!

It's so simple to just visit this PLEDGE link and it will bring you right to the FiveSibes PayPal pledge button! You know you are in the right place when you see this image below:

While this year we are registered as "remote hikers" and will be walking in the fundraiser from home, we humans did attend last year and had a wonderful time while helping the rescue raise valuable funds for the Huskies they save and help. Here's a fun look back to last year's "Tails on the Trails":

Woos and Thank Yous for Your Support!

Happy First Day of Autumn!

 Check out this beautiful Husky having a blast in the raked leaves! I am still smiling! What a great way to kick-off Autumn! We think it's one of the best videos ever! Enjoy!

October's Bright Blue Weather

O sun and skies and clouds of June
And flowers of June together,
Ye cannot rival for one hour
October's bright blue weather;
When loud the bumblebee makes haste,
Belated, thriftless vagrant,
And goldenrod is dying fast,
And lanes with grapes are fragrant;
When gentians roll their fringes tight,
To save them for the morning,
And chestnuts fall from satin burs
Without a sound of warning;
When on the ground red apples lie
In piles like jewels shining,
And redder still on old stone walls
Are leaves of woodbine twining;
When all the lovely wayside things
Their white-winged seeds are sowing,
And in the fields, still green and fair,
Late aftermaths are growing;
When springs run low, and on the brooks
In idle, golden freighting,
Bright leaves sink noiseless in the hush
Of woods, for winter waiting;
When comrades seek sweet country haunt
By twos and twos together,
And count like misers hour by hour
October's bright blue weather.
O sun and skies and flowers of June,
Count all your boasts together,
Love loveth best of all the year
October's bright blue weather.

Flashback Friday #35: Looking Back on the Dog Days of Summer with the FiveSibes & Friends "Summer Fun" Video!

Harley, poolside, on lifedog duty.

Summer in many areas is starting to wind down...Labor Day has passed, the kids are back in school, and while there are still a few days of summer-like temperatures, the cooler temps are on the way - which of course, is music to a Siberian Husky's ears! Our FiveSibes kids have had enough lounging in the air conditioned house, lying under fans, and splashing in the pool. On a few cool nights we've had here in New York (before the recent two-day heatwave, complete with high humidity) the Huskies have had lots of pep in their steps and were "woooing" more songs than they have all summer!

Wolf is tuckered out from all the summer fun!

For this week's "Flashback Friday," we are going to take a look back at how Summertime was such a fun season for our furpals from across the globe, and as you'll see from this video slideshow, how they all "beat the heat," with lots of splashing and lounging in pools, playing with fun water toys, going boating with the family, romps along the beach and in the surf, hiking trails, squirrel watching, going for car rides, celebrating summer holidays and birthdays, running through sprinklers, playing with garden hoses, swimming in lakes, attending sports games, camping, chillin' with family and friends, and staying cool in their air conditioned homes.

We love all the beautiful photos! The slideshow includes photos of all the entries from our recent FiveSibes "Summer Fun" Canine Photo Contest.(Note: Judges are still deliberating! They will have their votes in by September 15th, and we will announce the prize winners of the contest after that, so be sure to check back!) We received 162 photos alone for the contest! Woo! You guys all made the judges have a very hard job as each and every photo was of a beautiful furkid enjoying life! In addition to the contest entries, any photos received past the contest deadline date were also included in the video because we love our furpals! I sure hope I have every furpal's name correct, as well as their "dog house" location! I tried very hard to be sure the information was listed correctly. There are approximately 200 photos of amazing canines enjoying the summer in total! While some folks sent in one photo, and others several, they are all included in the video. (However, for the contest, only one winner per family can be selected.) This has been a true labor of love putting the show together, and the FiveSibes and I hope you'll enjoy watching grab some healthy snacks and call your furkids by your side, and enjoy watching so many of our furry friends enjoying some "Summer Fun!"

Remembering 9/11: Twelve Years Later

September 11, 2001. Twelve years ago. I remember exactly where I was when the news broke. A horrific day. Babies have grown up. Young children are now adults. Search and Rescue (SAR) dogs retired and passed on. Time marches on, but we will never forget.

On this memorial day of 9/11, we want to pay tribute to all the heroes of that day, and those days following the attacks on America...both human and canine.

We are still a nation in healing. I think we will always be. We are so thankful for all those who answered the call that fateful day, even though the two simple words "Thank You" just does not seem enough to express our gratitude. Our hearts go out to the families of lost loved ones, and our deepest, sincerest thanks to all of the heroes of 9/11.

We will always remember.

There are so many 9/11 stories, many still untold. If you were on a K-9 team, a vet, or VMAT (veterinary medical assistance team) and  have a story to share, or know of someone who does, please visit the Finding One Another website and click on the icon for "Finding One Another: Courage Beyond Measure" to register your 9/11 service stories. Also visit their 9/11 Recognition Ceremony photo gallery HERE.

Ten years after the 9/11 attacks, Dutch photographer Charlotte Dumas located 15 of the then-surviving canines and she went to visit them in their homes, photographing them with their handlers for a beautiful photographic tribute in her book titled Retrieved. A wonderful way to remember some of those amazing canines.

We will always remember our heroes.

From the 10 Year Anniversary Recognition Ceremony for the 9/11 SAR Dogs:

We will never forget.
