Seizures/Epilepsy in Other Animals
March 21, 2025
While my expertise in with epilepsy and seizures is for dogs—based on my over 16 years of experience from my own journey with my beloved Epi-dog, Gibson, and from years of research and information from our amazing team of veterinarians plus much information on Canine Epilepsy and seizures in dogs from the neurology department at the Companion Animal Epilepsy Research Lab based out of the North Carolina State University-College of Veterinary Medicine—I do get asked if animals other than dogs can get seizures. The answer is yes. As a result, I've created this page to share info on seizures and/or epilepsy in cats, rabbits, and although less common, horses.
Hopefully, this will give you some basic information on seizures in these pets so you can have an in-depth conversation with your vet.
You can also do a "Search" on the Companion Animal Epilepsy Research Lab's website for a myriad of info on different types of neurological issues/seizures in companion animals.
I will periodically update this page as info becomes available.
