FiveSibes Joining #DogsinCars to Raise Funds for Shelter Animals on a Flashback Friday!

Image
Puppies Bandit and Chloe It's Flashback Friday! Wooo! Are you ready for the weekend? We sure are! And today we are driving down Memory Lane to the year 2010, when Bandit and Chloe were just mere two-year-old pups all buckled up and going out for a drive!  Today's post is also all about #DogsinCars! If you have an Instagram account (you can find us under @FiveSibesMom), there's a great fundraising promotion going on we learned about from our Blogger furpal, Sugar the Golden Retriever.  For every Instagram photo tagged using the hashtag #DogsInCars & #Donate, TrueCar will donate $1 up to $50,000 to Best Friends Animal Society . Helping Best Friends Animal Society transport dogs from overpopulated city shelters to local adoption facilities, and ensuring they are adopted into forever homes. The promotion is good until May 4! So "Snap" a pic of your pet. Then hop on over to Instagram, post your dog(s) in car pics, and "Tag" **don...

Merry Christmas! It's Time for a Sleigh Ride!

Image
Merry Christmas to all of our furpals and their hu-families! We wish you all the merriest the season has to offer and the brightest of new years. While we reflect back on this year, let's all celebrate how lucky we are to have our furbabies in our lives. Let us also take a few moments to remember the many furpals who are now celebrating Christmas in the big, beautiful snowy meadow beyond the Rainbow Bridge, and those who are homeless. May animals everywhere get their wish this Christmas for a warm place to sleep, bowls filled with food, and hugs by humans whose hearts are filled with love. We are all so fortunate to have forged wonderful, caring relationships here in our pet community.  Thank you to all who joined in our Christmas Canines & Friends Sleigh Ride! The FiveSibes and I had so much fun putting our sleigh ride together and meeting so many gorgeous furbabies from across the globe! So after the presents have been opened, gather your hu- and furfamily around and enj...

Holistic Healing of a Husky Through Laser Therapy

Image
Gibson is checking himself out in an edition of a regional newspaper!    Why is Gibson featured? I wrote an article that was published in a newspaper about K-Laser USA Therapy  and the healing effects is has on animals, and one such patient is my boy, Gibson. Gibson had been experiencing some severe hind end weakness, including inability to take stairs, splaying when he walked on floors, and having a difficult time getting up. Since he is an Epi-dog and on a medicine regiment, helping him to heal without medication was my hope. I'm fortunate in that I have a wonderful veterinarian team and a lead veterinarian who is leading the way in our area with this type of alternative holistic healing and pain treatment.    Gibson waiting for his treatment next to poster of how it works.   Today, a large number of us pet parents seeks out alternative, or holistic, methods to treat our own health concerns and now turn to those same methods for our pets’ illness...

Hurricane Disaster Pet Preparedness

Image
With the impending hurricane and storm warnings, please do not leave your pets behind! Some helpful tips include making a checklist that includes your pet(s). Have leashes, pet collars w/ID tags, meds, carriers/crates, car seatbelts, blankets, several days worth of food and water, current photos of your pets, and emergency info ready to go along with your own emergency plan. Have your pet's vaccination records with you in case evac shelters need to see them. Let other family members know of your plan. Have contact phone numbers with you. Charge your cell phone batteries and have a battery or car charger back-up. Have a flashlight and portable radio with fresh batteries handy. Be sure your vehicle has pet seatbelts or pet restraints and that your fuel tank is full in case of evacuation. Be sure to ask if the shelters accept pets, even though there are many that do...there are some who do not! Remember, you are not alone. There are agencies and folks available to help. For gre...

National Pet Month's Be the Change: Bringing Awareness to Prevention of Animal Cruelty

Image
Please treat all animals humanely! April is a busy month in the animal kingdom! While we are celebrating National Pet Month (isn’t every month Pet Month?) it also goes hand-in-hand with Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month. With so many horrific stories of animal abuse that have been making the headlines lately, I thought today— Blog the Change Day —would be a good time to talk about good pet care and cruelty awareness. While the fact these atrocities are being brought to light, it’s just a sin that they are occurring at all.   By now, most of us have heard about the story of Patrick, the miracle dog, who was starved to near death and then tossed out with the trash; the story of a so-called animal “activist” who was caught on film beating a dog with a club for allegedly digging holes and also dragged the poor dog around by a paw; the cat who was set on fire while alive; the 100 sled dogs who were “culled,”allegedly due to financial difficulties; the ex-race horses...
