A Birthday Fond(ant)ly Remembered

Image
Flashback Photo ~ Gibson & Hu-Mom ~ September 2015   Tomorrow is my birthday, and this one from five years ago always springs to mind. What a birthday this was! At the time, I had been on a special diet for my health and feeling quite grumpy because my acupuncturist had me on a detoxing plan, so all I pretty much ate was seeds and dirt--hence the grumpiness. My husband and daughter went back and forth on whether to get me a cake, knowing I was on the special diet. Ultimately, they decided to get one, because what's a birthday without a cake? Even if I couldn't eat it, I could still enjoy the ceremony surrounding it.   They totally surprised me with this beautiful cake complete with a portrait of my beloved heart dog, Gibson, on the icing! It was truly a work of art! The cake was so pretty, for a moment, I thought about saving the top! ( Confession time: a few years earlier they had a custom cake made with five fondant Huskies on top, and while they eagerly waited to...

Thoughts of Gibson on His Rainbow Bridge Day

Image
Four years ago today, my heart broke when I lost my furry best friend..my heart dog, Gibson. đź’ś We had such a special, deep soul  connection that comes along so rarely. He was a true gentle giant, a loving dog, a deep soul. Gib was a true warrior, facing and conquering challenges from his epilepsy with courage and determination, and never diminishing his zest for life. Gibson inspired me to lead a crusade in his name to this very day, including authoring two books and many articles, and becoming the face of dog treats made for dogs with epilepsy, all in an effort to help and educate others about Canine Epilepsy. His love for me, for Harley, for his whole pack family was so true. This boy loved life so much. Forever would not have been long enough to share life with this incredible dog. He truly left his big furry polar bear pawprint forever on my heart. Helen of Troy’s face may have a launched a thousand ships, but Gibson of FiveSibes face launched a worldwide awareness campa...

A #FiveSibes Flashback Friday Funny: Oh, Gibson!

Image
Oh,  Gibson!  🤭  BOL! Today we are flashing back four years to August of 2015 and my silly, fluffy boy Gibson who always had a great Siberific sense of humor and could make me laugh! Gib always, ALWAYS loved to lay belly up, private parts exposed to the heavens! I remember we'd chuckle as he was rolling over, knowing exactly the position he favored, and thought, "that boy should be censored!"  I hope today's Flashback Friday funny moment in time brings you a smile to kick off your weekend! đź’ś Remembering Gibson đź’ś

Image
Gibson Les Paul of Mystic Mountain "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; all that we love deeply becomes a part of us." ~Helen Keller Today dawned gloomily with the heavens crying crystalized tears of frozen rain. Seems very appropriate for the third anniversary of my beloved Gibson earning his furangel wings. It is surreal that it is now three years. One month after my dear mother passed. I can close my eyes and be transported back to that day...that season...but choose not to. Gibson was not only a big fluffy wooly Siberian Husky boy (tipping scales throughout his life from 98 to 120 back to 98 pounds), but he had heart and soul bigger than the sky. He loved life. He never let Canine Epilepsy keep him from enjoying all that life offered. I am so proud he became, and still is, the face of Canine Epilepsy and the positive and inspirational message of hope and how amazing these dogs are. His courage and zest for life is what I hold dear and celebrate when ...

Lovely September Token on a Flashback Friday!

Image
"By all these lovely tokens September days are here, With summer's best of weather And autumn's best of cheer." ~Helen Hunt Jackson September is my favorite month! It's not just because it's my birth month, but because it truly is a lovely time of year giving us both Summer and Autumn in one month! While still summer for most, the morning air becomes tinged with a coolness hinting at the soon to arrive Autumn with its crisp air and Mother Nature's beautiful palette of colors, a glorious time of year! With our oppressive summer heat wave finally coming to a close just yesterday after two months of the highest humidity we have seen in long time, I am looking forward to Autumn's arrival even more! While long days of summer bring about a relaxing time, when no one seems in a rush and happiness is lounging around with iced drinks and splashing in the pool, this summer with all of its hotter-than-hot heat and humidity did not seem to allow much mo...

Party North of the Rainbow Bridge, Gib!

Image
Happy Birthday to my beautiful furangel, Gibson. Today, he would be 12 years old! My, how time keeps marching on.  Have a wonderful party North of the Rainbow Bridge, Gibbie. I know you have Hu-Nanny and so many furfriends there. Enjoy some fun snow zoomies, and as I see the snow falling here, know I will be thinking of you on your special day.  Love you, G-man. For always. “We may not be together in the way we used to be. We are still connected  by a cord no eye can see. So whenever you need to find me, we’re never far apart. If you look beyond the Rainbow and listen with your heart.” ~Unknown Author Oh, I so miss those precious Gibbie kisses! Gibson's 9th Birthday in 2014, his last with us. A Letter to Gibson on His 2nd Anniversary at The Rainbow Bridge #LiveGibStrongForever

Image
"I can no longer  see you with my eyes touch you with my hands, but I will feel you in my heart  forever." ~Tanya Lord Dear Gibson,  My beloved fur friend, you are indeed in my heart for always. I cannot believe you have not been here in two years. I still look for you, hear you wooing "I wuv woo," and "ice cream," can see you doing your Gibbe hip-hop dance, feel the weight of your polar bear paw, and miss those Gibbie nibbies and kisses. You were, and always will be, an inspiration to me. You helped me get through some tough days of having autoimmune issues from RA and fibromyalgia, and some days we limped together. I still use your determination and will to fight  your Epi demons to get me through my continuing days, just the same as I helped you through your trials and tribulations of living with Canine Epilepsy.  Your Sibe family misses you, too: your true love Harley, and your younger brother Wolf, and siste...

A Wet & Wild Wooly on a Flashback Friday!

Image
"There shall be eternal summer in the grateful heart." ~ Celia Thaxter I just love this photograph of my boy Gibson enjoying himself in the sprinkler one summer some eight years past, when he was just a young wooly Husky. How I loved his beauty, his playfulness, his zest for life, and oh, that magnificent waterfall tail! Gibson's enjoying moment of cooling off in the shooting rays of water is just pure joy, and such a wonderful moment tucked away forever in my grateful-for-having-him heart. J oin Us!!! Auld Lang Syne

Image
Happy New Year & Happy Birthday, furangel Gibson! It's been a few weeks since I've last posted and what a roller coaster of a ride it has been. Some of it pretty wonderful, and some tragically sad, which led to my blogging absence during the holiday season. It seems along with our return, the new year, and in keeping with the theme of  "Auld Lang Syne," it is very appropriate that we return today on a Flashback Friday and on what would have been Gibson's 11th Birthday, with a recap of our holiday, and a tribute to family members no longer with us. With Gibson always in our thoughts, the rest of the FiveSibes patiently awaited Santa Paws' arrival on Christmas! They also have been adjusting to having a newborn baby in the house ( see my 4Knines article on "How to Prepare Yo ur Dogs for a Newborn Baby" )! It has been a fun and exciting time for all here. I have been so in love with my new grandson, Cody, enjoying spending time togeth...
