Today, we the FiveSibes are taking over the blog! Why? Because it is a very special day here at the FiveSibes homestead! It's Hu-Dad's Birthday! Woooo! We're flashing back to some of these pics of Hu-Dad with us over the years! Our Hu-Dad is the best! He builds us cool stuff life a roof over OUR deck (it's once was theirs, but now it's ours)! He wanted to be sure to keep us dry in rainy and snowy weather because he knows how much we love to sit up high on the deck and look over the yard! He carries us when we are injured, and even built us a handipup ramp (for Chloe's recovery from double CCL surgery, and Gibson when he tore his  CCLs and with his bouts of weak hind end), and he used to take Harley with him to court when she was just a pup (she even rode in the police car, but shhhhhh, don't tell the other Sibes!)   Today, we hung our Norstar on our FiveSibes favorite maple tree. Norwood's mom knitted these stars and sent out to friends to hang in Norwood's memory. A donation to his little furbrother Seager's rescue in his memory is such a nice way to help another rescue dog. Norwood would have really liked that. And hanging stars is such a wonderful tribute! As so many of us here in Blogville feel, we may not personally know each other, but through our blogs and connection, we share a special bond, sometimes even more special than those we hold with someone we do see in person. Love and friendship comes from the heart; miles between do not matter. We all know how much Norwood loved life, lived life, and will now shine brightly in hundreds of trees and landmarks across the lands. While it unofficially marks the start of summer in many areas, with family get-togethers, picnics, barbeques, pool time, and more, we can not forget the true meaning of the day and take a few minutes to pay homage to those veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice throughout the years for our country.  Since World War I, canines have played a large part in history. Known as "war dogs," these courageous canines, accompanied by their handlers, have bravely assisted our soldiers in so many ways; from tracking to bomb sniffing. Our Flashback Friday is a special one in honor of Memorial Day (Monday, May 25). This patriotic photo featuring our boy Wolf was taken a few years back. On Monday we will feature a special Memorial Day post in honor of our veterans, but today since it's the start to the weekend, we wanted to talk about some safety tips as Memorial Day weekend is also the unofficial start to summer in many areas. It's a time for family and friends get-togethers, barbeques, swimming, and outdoor fun, so we like to take this time to share a few FiveSibes Safety Tips as a reminder so everyone, including our pets, can enjoy the long weekend: Keep pets in a separate room or kennel while guests are arriving and leaving to avoid any escapes and to help quell any anxieties. Keep collar and tags on in case they get spooked or sneak off. Keep a leash nearby for emergency roundups. Keep lit candles and lighters out of their reach. As we know, bath and grooming days for a Siberian Husky is an adventure! This past Friday was spa time at our FiveSibes homestead and prior to the actual bath time, I posted this pic of our Harley queen reigning over the empty bathtub on our FiveSibes Facebook page , and we had readers comment about how well our Sibes behave during bath and grooming time. For starters are very fortunate enough to have a groomer who does house calls and has become very familiar with my Huskies over the years. Previously, we did a drop-off at a grooming parlor, but it was traumatic for both Huskies, the staff, and me! Gibson even managed to get himself out of their kennel one time and was meandering around the room on his own! A real Husky Houdini! I love having my Sibes groomed in their own home environment, and since my diagnosis of Rhuemetoid Arthritis now prevents me from helping, my wonderful future son-in-law stepped in to help keep our Huskies feeling calm by assisting the groomer and supportin...
