FiveSibes: Red Nose Day to Help End Child Poverty

Image
Is your nose red? Don a red nose—like my FiveSibes did in 2017— in support of ending child poverty across the globe. Together, we can be the change for children in need by joining together to reach Red Nose Day's then goal to "end child poverty--one nose at a time." Here, at FiveSibes, our Huskies joined us humans in spreading the word and mission. We hope you will, too! Did you know?  "In the US alone, around 12 million children – that’s nearly 1 in 6 – live in poverty. Globally, about 663 million children are deprived of one or more basic needs, like food, shelter, safe drinking water, sanitation, healthcare or education." ~RedNoseDay.org  Today, Red Nose Day does even more. They believe in creating a healthy future for children.  How? Within "holistic balance" of their four pillars: 1. Safe, 2. Healthy, 3. Educated, and  4. Empowered.       According to the organization, " In nine years, we’ve raised more than $324 million to help...

#FiveSibes Flashback ~ "Gibson" ~ May 2015       Ah, to know Gibson was to love him, and laugh. This boy was born a comedian. He was a special soul, my heart dog for always. He always managed to bring a smile - or chuckle - to me! This boy had a huge personality - and it was great. He had a zest for life and truly loved every moment of it. Yes, he had epilepsy, but this boy never let it keep him down, nor did it ever do anything to dampen his joy. Once in a lifetime along comes that more-than-special dog soul, and he was mine. Pictured here, is just one of the many Silly Gibbie moments. I was in my room, organizing my disaster of a walk-in closet. When I came out, there was Gibson all comfy waiting for me...and holding my tossed empty hangers with his big beautiful paw, as if to say, "Here, I'm helping you, Mom."  Yup, G, you still have me laughing. 💜🥰 I hope this fond Flashback brought a smile or chuckle to you, too. Enjoy every small little moment of life. ...

Knowing Critically Important First Aid & CPR For Your Pet

Image
Updated April 24, 2024 W hile April is the official National Pet First Aid Awareness Month, every day is a day to be aware of important pet life-saving tips and know what to do in those precious minutes before you can get your pet to the veterinarian.  April is also a good time to check out classes near you where you can become certified in First Aid & CPR for your dog (or cat). I did when I had my FiveSibes. My vet was always on speed-dial, and they accepted texts from (i.e. one morning at 2:30 AM when Gibson was rushed to the ER animal hospital), and I lived close to both my vet office (in my backyard as the crow flew) and near to the ER hospital - however, there are times when it is necessary to know what to do in case of accident, injury, or ingestion of a toxins. As Ben Franklin said, "An ounce of prevention is a worth a pound of cure."   A MUST READ! I'm proud to say my article "The Importance of Pet First Aid & CPR" has been published in 4Knines...

#FlashbackFriday: Earth Day Tips to Reduce Carbon Pawprints & Invest in Our Planet

Image
Every time I look at this photo of our alpha queen, Harley, from May 2018, eagerly anticipating eating this homemade cake pop, I often think how the cake pop looks like our planet Earth. So what a perfect photo for today's #FlashbackFriday pic ~ and in celebration of Earth Day and this year's theme of #InvestInOurPlanet.     "This is the moment to change it all — the business climate, the political climate, and how we take action on climate. Now is the time for the unstoppable courage to  preserve and protect our health, our families, and our livelihoods... . For Earth Day 2023, we need to act (boldly), innovate (broadly), and implement (equitably).  Businesses, governments, and citizens — everyone accounted for, and everyone accountable .  A partnership for the planet.. . It’s going to take all of us. All in." ~ EarthDay.org   To help do our part again this year, I am resharing a few of our #FiveSibes tips to help reduce your pet's carbon pa...
