Annual Purple Day® for Epilepsy BLOG & SOCIAL MEDIA HOP Invitation!

Image
On Friday, March 26, it is Purple Day® for Epilepsy and I'm hosting my annual FiveSibes #LiveGibStrong Blog & Social Media Hop along with co-hosts Jeanaann Barnaby of Knotty Toys for Good Dogs and Kimberley Matchem of Rescue Dog-Mom Confessions !    Purple Day, founded by Cassidy Megan, is a day to "go purple" - whether you dress you and your pet in purple, whip up purple cupcakes, draw purple pictures, put a purple filter on a photo, whatever you like -- all in an effort to join together and show our support for Human and Canine Epilepsy awareness.    I am proud to be an official Purple Day Ambassador since 2012. As many of you know, my journey began back in 2009 when my beautiful wooly boy, Gibson, began having seizures and was eventually diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy. I've chronicled our journey over the years, and have written many articles, as well two books, and several podcasts all about Canine Epilepsy and seizures in dogs in the hope of hel...

Wolf Feelin' Better and a Bit Sibe-rish!

Image
Wolfie embracing his silly Siber-ishness on St. Paddy's Day!   Wolfie has just come off of a week of not feeling well, so our St. Paddy's post is a bit late. Wolf had no appetite, and had been sick again from both ends...he scared momma here, especially after the similar symptoms of how we lost his sister, Bandit, this past fall. I am sure I am uber-sensitive about every move he makes now that he is my only senior "pupster" and the last of my FiveSibes. After a vet home visit, his tests all came back good, which was a huge relief.    The current diagnosis is chronic gastrointestinal issues, which is not surprising as my boy has always had anxiety issues since he was young, and having lost all of his packmates--three in just a little over a year's time, is tough. He went through severe grief and depression for quite a while after Bandit's sudden passing last fall. He no sooner came out of his grief, and he was hit with several bouts of being sick. We now have a...

Happy "Sweet 16" Birthday to our Alpha Queen Harley at the Rainbow Bridge

Image
Today is a bittersweet post as it would have been our beautiful alpha queen Harley's Sweet 16 Birthday. Harley was our first Siberian Husky, and the OG of the FiveSibes pack family! She was the inspiration behind my love of the breed, and the reason I fell under the Husky Potato Chip syndrome! (I could not just have one Husky)! Birthdays were also so much fun with my FiveSibes. It's as if they understood that cake and toys were coming! And Harley naturally embraced her princess role! She loved crowns! That's our alpha queen! Our queen wore her crown proudly! Cake time was always a blast! She was the "momma" dog...taking in the three Pupsters as if they were her own. She was the true love of Gibson, smitten since the moment he met her and she rammed him head over fluffy butt into the pool! I always loved how she would keep the Pupsters in line, teach them the ways of a Siberian Husky, and snuggle up with all of them. She was spunky and sassy, and could even be ...

Celebrating 11 Years of FiveSibes Blogging!

Image
Wow! And in the language of Siberian Huskies, "Wooooo!" Today, we mark 11 years of blogging here at FiveSibes! It all began with my beautiful pack of five Siberian Huskies, hence the name FiveSibes - our first and the alpha queen herself, Harley; my sweet wooly Epi-boy Gibson, and our five littermates, the "Pupsters Wolfgang, Chloe, and Bandit! As a career writer, I took the plunge in February of 2010 and posted my very first blog article on Pet Dental Health Month featuring our alph queen, Harley, and her pearly whites! Very First FiveSibes Blog Post!   When I first embarked upon writing this blog and writing about daily life shared with my beloved FiveSibes, as well as all things canine, never did I imagine I would be doing for more than a decade! I also never thought I'd be writing this - our 11th Blogiversary - with only one of my original (OG) pack remaining, my boy Wolfie. While this has been an amazing journey, it is hard to believe that the heydays of FiveSib...

Happy Birthday to Pupster, Wolfie! And a Gift of Snow from Furangel Pupsters Bandit & Chloe

Image
Wolfie is a teenager!   Woo! Today is our Pupsters' birthday! Wolfie turns 13! It's a bittersweet day as it is wonderful to celebrate our boy Wolf becoming a "teenager"...we certainly miss his two sisters, littermates Bandit and Chloe. This birthday gone as all the chaos and excitement of three Huskies sharing the same birthdate together since they were pups! Oh, those crazy fun-filled birthdays! But I am happy my boy is here sharing this special day. It was much quieter, but ice cream cake time still brings the same excitement as it always has with all three. My grandson, Wolf's human brother and best buddy, excitedly helped me prepare the ice cream cake!      Then, when the cake was ready, my grandson sang "Happy Birthday, Wolfie" as he brought him his treat! Oh, how this touched my heart. Seeing their bond is something truly special and has certainly helped Wolf heal from his loss of his sisters.   Wolfie and I also took a nice walk and played out ...
