Flashback Friday Revisits 70 Years Ago Today...to a Heroic Generation

Image
T/Sgt. Wills with two K9 buddies. Today, we are taking trip down Memory Lane to an important time in our American history. Seventy years ago today - May 8, 1945, was VE Day, Victory in Europe Day, signaling the nearing end of World War II. My dad served in the United States Army from 1939 until the end of World War II in 1945. He served two tours in the European Theater - one from 1942 until 1943 with the renowned "Big Red One" 1st Division, and then a second time he went back with the men he trained in the 16th Infantry's Rainbow Division, both times in a medical detachment. Ironically, May 8th is also the day my Dad earned his wings and journeyed to Heaven...in 1974, just one year shy of 30 years after he was one of our nation's "greatest generation" heroes. My Dad was a great lover of animals, dogs and horses in particular. Even on base, he canine buddies! In 1995, I was part of our city's WWII Commemorative Anniversary Committee and worked ...

Tasty Tuesday Treats for Cinco de Mayo!

Image
The air is filled with lively music, laughter, and singing as it echoes all around our neighborhood. One can't help but to start dancing! It's Cinco de Mayo and one of our local restaurants is having a street festival and we are fortunate enough to enjoy the sounds from the comfort of our own backyard!  To celebrate on this Cinco de Mayo Tasty Tuesday, we are sharing one of the FiveSibes favorite prepared treat and even a Siberlicious recipe from our fabulous baking friends over at House Woof Dog Biscuits in Vermont! Up first, of course, is our Gibson's namesake treat...   Gibbie Snacks were formulated by House Woof with the Epi-dog (canine epileptic) in mind. Named after my Epi-Husky "Gibson," these are formulated with no wheat, no rosemary, and no preservatives (all possible triggers for seizures), and no salt (always important, especially if one of the medications an Epi-dog is on is Potassium Bromide). They are made of only the freshest in...

Sunset Sibes on a Shadow Shot Sunday

Image
My Shadow Shot is more of an "in the shadows" photograph. We've had some gorgeous pink skies at night sunsets and I was able to capture two of my Siberian Huskies as they played on our deck, with Harley (left) coming out of the dark shadows to engage in Husky play with Bandit...all with the gorgeous sunset behind them and the darkened trees. It was one of those beautiful spontaneous moments I was just lucky enough to capture on my iPhone camera! Happy Sunsets! Shadow Shot Sunday 2

Lumps, Bumps & Growths: Are They Normal? Maybe. But, Always Have Them Checked.

Image
Gibson and his gal Harley After a couple recent scares, I wanted to discuss lumps, bumps, and growths on a dog's skin. Recently, both Gibson and Wolf have required attention for growths.  Gibson  has had one on his right knee for almost two years. It started off as a simple skin tag. Normal color. Nothing alarming, other than I don't like bumps on my furbabies.   *There are some photos in this post that are a bit unpleasant.* Skin tag turned weird growth. But knowing dogs, like humans, can get these "tags" as they get older. I constantly monitored it and had my vet team monitor it, and we covered it when he received laser treatments. ( Laser treatments are amazing for healing wounds, arthritis, etc., but not for growths because while it works on a cellular level and is just amazing for healing, the flip side is it can stimulate growths, tumors, etc. to grow. It's always important to discuss and review your dog's case with your vet prior to sta...
