March 13, 1942 marked the birthday of the  United States K9 Corps.  To all our K9 Veterans and handlers -  We Salute You! Today is a very special day here in our FiveSibes™ home...it's our Harley's 8th Birthday - the leader of our pack! Woo! It's so hard to believe that it was eight years ago today we brought the tiny little eight-week old pup with the intense mask and bright blue eyes home! This beautiful sassy little pup - who captured my daughter's heart immediately (ours too) -  grew into a beautiful, super smart, and still sassy adult, and is credited with being the first, and future leader, of the FiveSibes! After Harley became part of our family, we definitely came down with the Siberian Husky Potato Chip Syndrome! At the time, we had a then 13-year-old rescued Akita/German Shepherd, Chelsey, who we had since a pup, and she was sadly starting to get Canine Alzheimer's and arthritis, and pup Harley was just too rambunctious and rough for her, so Hu-Dad suggested getting Harley a play mate...and that's when Gibson joined our family and he has had a mad crush on Harley sinc...

--> It's Flashback Friday ! And we are jumping back a year for this p hoto of our Bandit waiting for t he arrival of Daylight Saving Time (DST)! This year, DST falls on this Sunday, March 10th, when we will be "springing ahead" our clocks and marking the pending arrival of the start of spring! While we are losing an hour, we gain “longer” days with it staying light later. This allows us so much more time to walk and play with out furkids, although in this Sibe household, we will surely miss the snow! But, having longer days seems like a fair trade-off! There are some important reminders for those who follow DST that we would like to once again review as we prepare for the upcoming spring and summer months: If your pet is on specifically timed medications (like our Epi-Husky Gibson who is on meds he must take 12 hours apart), you can help reset your pet's internal clock for these medications by staggering them by a half-...

Wooo! We are so excited! Look who are the  "Cover Dogs"  for the Winter 2013 issue of the  Dog Writers Association of America 's  Ruff Drafts  newsletter...  our very own resident couple Gibson and Harley!   We are so honored! Thank you DWAA for  selecting our Sibes! So, I suppose... ...they will want a steak dinner tonight... ...and some sunglasses... ...and will start giving pawtographs... ...and have me take their calls... ...and read fan mail to them... ...and drive them around in a limo... ...have me fetch their toys... ...and expect me to wait on them... Oops...gotta run...Harley and Gibson are calling me!   ( wink-wink! ) Have a great day!

Today's Flashback Friday brings us to when Gibson was perfecting his counter surfing skills. Since he has been on Epi meds for three years, he had become quite lethargic and hadn't counter surfed in years. After a bout of Bromide toxicity, (which I previous wrote about) , his meds were reduced and it was as if my boy awoke to being three again! He became energetic, started running, and - of course - rediscovered the fine art of counter surfing! Typically, this sport is not condoned in the house, but seeing him being able to once again stand up on his hind legs just warmed my heart! Flash forward to today...and as many of you know, Gibson tore his cruciate ligament in his right leg and since he's an Epi-Husky, we've decided with our vet that we would go the Conservative Treatment route with him first before considering surgery.
