FiveSibes #Flashback ~ Harley  ~Valentine's Day 2015    O h, the month of love...and how did I love thee FiveSibes? SO MUCH! Holidays were always so much fun. See that intent, patient look on our alpha queen Harley's face? She knew that tasty heart cookie was for her! It was part of an order of tasty homemade healthy dog treats from Sassy's Goodies , a female and veteran-owned business in Missouri. (A little trivia: Owner Nanette also created the special Epi-friendly "Gib Nibs" cookies with ingredients friendly for dogs with epilepsy, like my Gibson, who she named them after. Sadly, Gib Nibs are no longer available). Now, our dear Harley wasn't the only Sibe to get treats, naturally, a whole box of yummies I ordered for them, plus a wonderful cake from Nanette! Now that cake looked pretty yummy, and it arrived it pretty good shape too being shipped across several states! As you can see, everyone was waiting patiently for their Valentine treats...well, everyo...

Birthday Wishes to FiveSibes Amazing Longtime Vet!

Image
W oo! There's a birthday in the FiveSibes atmosphere ~ our longtime, many pets-over-the-years (including a bunny) wonderful vet, Dr. Arnold Rugg!    Oh, how my Gibson adored going to his office to meet him and be fawned over by all the wonderful techs and staff! Dr. Rugg is who I worked with when Gibson first began having seizures, and he helped come up with a protocol that really helped. There, he was dying, but a call at 2:30 AM was answer by Dr. Rugg, who had him transferred to his own hospital where he cared for him, then did follow-ups with Gibson for IVs at home. Gibson rallied, but after a getting him strong enough for surgery, he sadly was diagnosed, ...

International Epilepsy Day - Caring for A Dog With Epilepsy

Image
T oday is International Epilepsy Day! Each year, Epilepsy Day falls on the second Monday of February, and since February is the month of love, it is another perfect time to show a whole lot of love for our Epi-dogs (dogs with epilepsy)!      A little background for new readers. I have been a proud official Purple Day® for Epilepsy Ambassador (for K9 Epilepsy) since 2012, inspired by my own journey with my beloved, amazing Gibson who was diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy shortly after his third birthday. Through all his trials come tribulations with epilepsy, he never let having seizures stop him from having such a zest for life! I learned so much from him, and loved him dearly. He was my heart dog. Gibson is the namesake for all of my awareness and educational initiatives, and when he earned his wings, he had lived the last 7 years of his life seizure free. He did not pass from epilepsy. He passed from hemangiosarcoma .   I also am very proud and honored that in 201...
