Purple Day® 2019: Debuting New "Cooling Down An Epi-Dog: Where Do I Put The Cold Packs?" #LiveGibStrong #Paws4Purple Educational Poster

Exciting News for Purple Day from FiveSibes! So many times over the years, parents and guardians of dogs with Canine Epilepsy have heard about placing cool packs on their dog to help with seizure care, especially since a dog's temperature can rise dangerously high during and after a seizure, and heat/overheating can also trigger seizures. The most popular question we hear is, "Where do I put the ice pack?!" Most times one will hear that the placement should be on the dog's "lower back" or between the thoracic and lumbar vertebrae. But many times that may leave dog parents going " Where exactly is that?" This led me to develop an information flyer, reviewed by my own vet, based on what worked for my Gibson to share with others to help answer that question when a dog has a seizure of "Where do I put the cold packs?"   I'm SO excited to present this on Purple Day®... Wait for it...  Are you curious...? ...

#FiveSibes Flashback Friday: A Journey Toward A Husky's Holistic Healing

Flashback: Gibson and Hu-Mommy, December 2014 With this being the month of Purple Day® and awareness for dogs with Canine Epilepsy, I was going over my journey with my beloved Gibson. Today's Flashback photo is when Gibson and I did a long-distance Reiki session with Marta Banat of All Paws Massage in Canada. I am an advocate of holitic healing and natural care, but I had never had any experience with Reiki. I went into it journaling the event, and you can read all about our experience HERE in my post. It was a wonderful, peaceful bonding time for my boy and I, and when you share your life with a dog that has epilepsy, all the natural methods of surrounding them in a peaceful environment is so important. This is now a moment in time that resides in my heart forever, and am forever grateful for my daughter capturing his moment on film. “What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.”   ― Karl Lagerfeld ...

These were two of favorite pics of our resident love couple, Harley and Gibson, getting into the spirit of St. Paddy's Day with Gibson sneaking in a little smooch to his girl! Aren't they just the sweetest canine couple? They were always together, inseparable. While I miss my big boy (and I am sure Harley still does, too), it warms my heart to remember these fabulous Flashback days!  Do you have a favorite...

A Birthday Fit For Our Queen Harley!

Image
Woo! It is such a special day here at FiveSibes homestead ~ our beautiful, super smart, sassy, and bossy alpha queen Harley is celebrating her 14th Birthday!  Our FiveSibes alpha queen "Harley Nanuk Mari" It is amazing to me that my daughter, who is married with a family of her own, was just 17 years old when we travelled in the pouring rain to bring THE most beautiful Siberian Husky puppy home! She has always been in love with the breed, and when our rescue Akita/German Shepard Chelsey was in her golden years, we opened our hearts and home to the stunning Husky puppy with such an intense mask, fulfilling not only my daughter's dream, but she would also soon become the leader of the future FiveSibes pack family, who all have added so much joy to my life! While Troy may have Helen, our Harley single-handedly was the gorgeous face that launched the FiveSibes and my love for this amazing breed. Gibson sure knew exactly what he was falling in love with when he jo...
