Today Marks the 1st International Epilepsy Day

Image
Today is the very first International Epilepsy Day, and we here at FiveSibes, continue our awareness of Canine Epilepsy, and also for people who have Epilepsy. International Epilepsy Day was created by the International Bureau For Epilepsy (IBE) and the The International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) "This world day for epilepsy will be a major step in improving epilepsy awareness in every region of the world, and will also highlight the urgent need for increased research into epilepsy. This joint initiative of the IBE and the ILAE will be a major event celebrated across the globe in the 138 of countries in which IBE and ILAE are represented. With both IBE and ILAE in official working relations with the WHO, and with IBE in Special Consultative Status in the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations, this will make International Epilepsy Day the most prestigious epilepsy event in the world."   ~International Bureau for Epilepsy ...

Shades of Beauty

"Keep your face always toward the sunshine - and shadows will fall behind you. " ~Walt Whitman As a photography student (some 40 years ago!), I learned my craft shooting black and white photos and developing them in a dark room in the basement of my school. Seeing the images first briefly under the enlarger, and then slowly come to life in the developing tray as the chemicals worked their magic, was what fed my creative spirit! Today, my Huskies are one of my favorite subjects to photograph. I especially love to do natural lighting portraits, freestyle. No lamps. No tripods. No fancy photo gimmicks. Just pure natural light, my dog, may camera, and me. That's why I love this portrait I shot of Gibson as he was sitting in the living room glancing out of the window as the sun beamed in, flooding him in beautiful light and shadows. These candid moments steal my breath away as I quickly and quietly reach for one of my cameras before the moment passes. These are som...

Rock n' Woo With the FiveSibes in a New Music Video and Happy Birthday to "The Dog Singer!"

Image
Woo! What's Harley so happy about? We have some very exciting news to share, that's why! The FiveSibes are starring in a music video! Wooo! We are big music fans in this house, and our FiveSibes are truly "a little bit country,"and a whole lot of Rock n' Woo! Even when they were puppies, music is how they settled down in their kennels to sleep. When they had their own room, and no radio was in it, I'd put on the television and they each loved something different. Gibson and Harley loved anything with singing, so a musical movie or show captivated them. Chloe and Bandit loved watching cartoons with all the animation and singing characters. And Wolf had to have hard rock music...AC/DC songs could lull his puppy self right to sleep! They grew up with my daughter jamming on her guitar, tinkling the ivories, and beating out a song on the drums.  The former rock band manager in me was in Heaven! Music filled our house, our ears, and our souls...and still rema...

A Snow Day for Snow Dogs!

Image
February is off to quite a start! Monday was a very snowy day here! It started snowing last night and went on all through the day and into the evening. We currently have about a foot and another storm moving in again in a day or so. It was a great day if you were a snow dog! The FiveSibes had a blast today. While Harley is on leash lock down due to her arthritic legs, and Gibson is still in the lift harness from his fall a year ago due to hind end weakness from his Epi-meds, they, too, had time to enjoy sitting in the snow and enjoy the crisp snowflakes falling all around them. When first let out, our girl Bandit flew like the wind over and into the snow drifts, all before I could even turn on my recorder! By the time I did, she had backed her speed and excitement back a few notches, but she gave us a very silly show! Here's a little video slideshow of their fun in the snow: A side effect of snow plowing Siberian Husky style! And after all the fun i...

Of Winters' Past on a Flashback Friday

Image
"Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!" This has been quite the week of snowstorms here, kicking it all off with a blizzard, followed by another snowstorm, and yet another snow day to come spreading more sparkly white stuff across the land this Sunday into Monday! It surely is a Siberian Husky's dream forecast! In honor of all this snow, January being Health and Fitness Month, and it being our Flashback Friday Blog Hop, I'm sharing a few pics of snowy winters of the past where our snowdogs just loved the snow! Up top are sisters Chloe and Bandit having a little Siberian Husky fun! Now sometimes folks not familiar with the breed think this looks like a vicious attack ~ let me assure you, there is no cause for alarm! It's just another day of Husky play. They do not hurt each other and they are not fighting...it's simply Siberian Huskies doing what they do best - roughhousing! And here is my sweet furangel Chelsey, a German Shepherd/Akita mix who w...

The Pupsters Sweet Seven Party!

Image
Our FiveSibes Flashback Friday post is a fun stroll back to just this past Monday, January 19, when our Pupsters ~ Wolf, Chloe, and Bandit ~ celebrated their seventh Birthday! Wooo! While we had hoped to share this party celebration a little earlier, but Wolf was sick with a tummy upset for two days (starting on his birthday) and their party was postponed a few days. And then I was hit by the stomach flu! Things are starting to settle down and everyone is making their way back to feeling better, so what better time to share their special celebration than on a Flashback Friday?! Here's a little video of their fun belated celebration: It's so hard to believe that seven years have passed since the Pupsters first came into our home at two months old! It has been such a wonderful experience seeing these three siblings grow up and always have each other to play with, and it's such a great feeling knowing they will never be separated! Wolf, Chloe, and Bandit have added th...
