#FBF: Gibson, A Magazine Cover Model: How #LiveGibStrong All Began

December is upon us. With November ending, and bringing a close to my month-long #NEAM (November Epilepsy Awareness Month) #Epi-Star stories about amazing dogs living life with Canine Epilepsy, I thought it only fitting to give a look back on how my advocacy and ambassadorship began - with a 2013 feature on our journey in AmericanPet Magazine, when my beloved Gibson was the cover model!

To read the article, visit HERE, and our story begins on page 22.

My dearest Gibson, you always inspired me with you beauty, pure joy, silliness, and zest for life. You will forever inspire me, as well as so many other Epi-dogs who are now on the same journey.

You are truly my forever K9 Hero.

"A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles." ~Christopher Reeve

  1. Gibson absolutely deserved the title of cover model...so handsome!! You've accomplished so much on this journey, and I know you'll keep helping, educating and inspiring epi dogs and their parents for years to come. You've become an invaluable resource to so many.

  3. So you know I’m a collie lover, and so is my daughter. But her husband grew up with a husky. He never tells her no to any of the collies…but recently found out about a litter of husky puppies in need of homes…and asked to adopt one. She couldn’t say no, not with all our collies that he lives with and helps show. So apparently a husky puppy will be joining our collie pack in the next two weeks! I don’t think it’s 100% Husky, it might be 25% German Shepherd. I’ll be sure to post pictures. He’s all white, and very cute.

    1. Oh, how exciting! My 3 favorite breeds - Huskies, German Shepherds, and Collies! I grew up with two Collies, then had a full-blooded retired NYPD K9, then adopted three Shepherd mixes, and then had my five Huskies! I always think if I ever get another, I would like to get a full or a Husky/Shepherd mix. Two of my Siberian Huskies, as you know, were all white - Wolfie, who was a "wooly" - long fur, and Chloe, who had the more traditional coat. I can't wait to see pics! I'm sure he is adorable! Congrats to your daughter and husband! What fun and exciting news!

  5. I love that you ended your Epi-Star Stories with Gibson. He truly was a brave boy and certainly put you on a mission. I'm always impressed with how you carry on his legacy no matter any personal obstacles. Gibson was such a handsome boy. I know he's still popping in at your side and checking you. Such a good boy! He was definitely model worthy with his American Pet Magazine cover. How could they have picked a different cover? I'm sharing this with all my pet parents so they realize that their fur babies can have a great life even with epilepsy. Sending you warm hugs as your remember your sweet boy.

    1. Thank you very much! That means so much to me! I do feel him by me, always. We had such an incredible bond, it goes far beyond this realm and beyond any words to describe it. Gibson sure did live life with such a zest, it was truly inspirational. And thank you, Terri, for sharing his story to show others he never let having epilepsy stop him from loving life. 💜🐕

  9. I have deep admiration for those who turned adversity into a life's mission. Your work is so helpful for parents dealing with canine epilepsy.

I just hope that one day, veterinary medicine steps up and actually figures out the cause. I always have to think about dialogue from House MD - idiopathic is from French word idiot, which means we have no idea what causes it.
