My Dogs Are Cool...Are Yours? Be the Change for Animals and Keep Them Safe From the Heat

Image
My dogs are cool…are yours? Harley is one cool Husky. Okay, so we’re bragging a little…our dogs ARE cool…but I will get to why in just a moment.  First, before we start talking about why our dogs cool, let's talk about what the significance of today is. Today is "Blog the Change for Animals," which is part of "Be the Change for Animals (BtC4A),"   and we are joining other pet lovers and advocates across the globe to Blog the Change about a cause that is important to us.  Be the Change! According to BtC4A, Blog the Change is when we, the pet community, "Come together to support people helping animals in need each 15th of January, April, July and October. Bloggers, write about a cause near and dear to  your  heart." Previously, I have blogged about Canine Epilepsy Awareness , which is very near and dear to my heart, and Helping Huskies in Need . I've also participated in Blog the Change for Animals about Pet Fire Safety and ...

Vote for Gibson and Help Us Win $500 for an Animal Shelter of our Choice!

Image
Vote for Gibson Here! Help us help pets in need by voting for our Gibson's photo (that was posted in my Take  Your Dog to Work Day blog post in June) in the TYDTWD photo contest! The photo is of our K9 Epilepsy SpokesHusky and assistant FiveSibes™ Tale book editor hard at work proofing! Deadline for voting is July 31 and the winner gets $500 for a shelter of her choice! While that really excites us, we also realize we are a really late entry, and only some 377,108 votes behind the #1 photo(!), but we're throwing our leash in the ring anyhow and asking if all of our Blogger pals could help us out and share with your followers. If you could help us promote Gibson, who knows, maybe we will have a shot at winning that money for some homeless animals! To vote, simply go to THIS LINK and click on the last paw (five is the highest) and that's it! Many "woos" and "thank yous!"

An Update on Chloe and a Family Thank You!

Image
An Update on Chloe   Chloe is continuing well with her recuperation from her June 6th surgery. To recap, she had to have an emergency double Bilateral Cruciate Imbrication on her hind legs for torn CCLs (ACLs on humans) and torn meniscuses after her attempt to jump up on the bed (which she has done hundreds of times). Best guess is she either was born with weak knee issues and over time the daily wear and tear literally tore her knees up, or she injured one of her knees during one of her play runs and tumbles and then overcompensated for it, thereby damaging the other. Whichever came first, the end result was the same - she apparently did not have healthy knees and she had badly damaged both to the point where she collapsed and could not walk. (For the full story on Chloe, visit our Pawcircle of Healing for Chloe , then Welcome Home, Chloe and For the Love of Chloe posts). Since then, she's been crated 24/7 with an E-collar and for the first week she was carried in and out o...

Happy Birthday, America!

Image
Woo! It is the Fourth of July! And Harley and the FiveSibes are looking forward to enjoying some BBQ treats!  In honor of this day, we would like to celebrate our country's birthday by sharing this video we created last year that features so many of our furpals from across America! So go get an ice cream cone or two (vanilla please, and don't forget to share with your furpals!), wave some American flags, and enjoy these beautiful "Patriotic Pets on Parade!" While you are enjoying all of the festivities, please be sure to keep our pets safe! While the fireworks displays are beautiful, many pets do not enjoy them. It is also a time of family parties and BBQs and also a time when many pets can get loose and run away. In this month's issue of American Pet Magazine , if you flip to page 5, I have an article Honoring & Calming Pets During Summer's Patriotic Holidays , with some tips on keep our furkids safe during these patriotic holidays. Here's a glim...

Spa Day Snow Furries Just Blowin' in the Wind...

Image
"Woo...and there was water and a blowdryer..." So today was "Spa Day" for four out of the FiveSibes (Chloe is still convalescing, so she escaped the dreaded bath!) Out of the four, two had baths and two had just the blow-outs and trim. (Gibson has been feeling under the weather due to a change in his epi-meds compound, so we excused him from the bath this time around). It seems while us hu-family members really love it when the Sibe kids get all deep-cleaned and groomed, for them not so much. With lots of crying and howling (Wolf, above), thrashing around (Bandit), and a little grumbling (Harley), our groomer managed to get them all looking fluffy, clean, and beautiful! The girls Harley and Bandit looking all pretty! Gibson was trimmed up nice and neatly. At the end of the day, what does Spa Day really mean? Here, where we have a groomer who does house calls, it means there's snow furries just blowin' in the wind...and across the deck, ...
