Of Spa Days and Snow Furries

Image
The (clean) Girls The (clean) Boys It's been "spa" days at the FiveSibes residence, with last weekend being the girls' turn, and this past weekend was the boys' turn. The bath water was so brown, the groomer said they white pups were "stained." Now there's something we were never told before, but then again, this year they made it their #1 Top Priority to dig every possible inch of backyard dirt into what really resembles a meteorite crater. Mix in a very rainy spring, and there's a recipe for the muddiest mud puddles ever. Thankfully, they cleaned up pretty well!  Paws are looking good, too! All the vampire nails are nice and manicured, and all the boys' shaggies are trimmed neatly. I have to say it's quite a trip to listen to them as they are bathed, blown dry, clipped, and pedicured. Each one brings their own personality to the experience. Harley, our alpha queen, wife to Gibson, and the pups' surrogate mother, morphs in...

A Call for Helping Two Huskies in Need

Image
Can you help us? Can we come live with you? I recently received word from a colleague that there are two beautiful Siberian Huskies in need of a loving home. Their current Hu-Mom notes, "I am heartbroken to have to look for new homes for my two Siberian Huskies. They are truly a delight and I would keep them forever if it were in any way possible. I have tried to arrange to do so, but have failed. I just can't take them with me on my move (from Atlanta to Alabama) because of an impending, permanent housing situation within a non-dog lover's home...I am desperate to find them new, forever homes within the month. Can you help me in any way?"  If we could all reach out to all our network of Husky contacts and Sibe-loving friends to see if they have room in their hearts and homes for these two beauties, I know it will help their Hu-Mom immensely. If you could please repost, link, reTweet, and share this with everyone you know, it would be greatly appreciated. H...

Helping Pets in Need: Operation Roger...Truckers Pet Transport

Image
I recently heard about " Operation Roger...Truckers Pet Transport " from a friend, and when I learned more about them, I just had to share!  Operation Ranger...Truckers Pet Transport is a non-profit organization that consist of "regional and long-haul truckers who volunteer their time to transport needy pets as they do their regular jobs of delivering freight across the country." How wonderful is that? Please visit their website and Facebook page to find out more about these truckers who are helping pets across the nation. They have transported 568 pets since their formation almost six years ago. Their mission: "To help rescues get pets to new homes and individuals retrieve pets they've had to leave behind."  Their goal: "To get known to more drivers so we can in turn help rescue groups and individuals who spend so much of their time and energy in saving pets from being put to sleep because of over crowding, or rescuing them from ba...

A Memorial Day Tribute to K9 Heroes

Image
Wolf thanks all veterans. While we all head off to enjoy Memorial Day whether it is by the beach or in our backyards, and are enjoying a fun-filled time with family and friends as we take in the wafting aromas of food being grilled on the BBQ, let us all pause to reflect upon the true meaning of the day: Memorial Day, a day to remember and honor those - both human and canine - who have fallen in the line of duty to protect our nation.  The following are some videos honoring the four-legged heroes. (The third video plays automatically. To turn off the sound, just click on "pause" to that video until you are ready to listen to it). Please click here for a special Police Dog Memorial Service at a special K9 Cemetery. During World War II, Siberian Huskies were among the breeds used as working war dog soldiers. Buck, a Siberian Husky pictured here, was the U.S. War Dogs Ambassador. He died March 23, 2006. Rest in Peace, Buck. If you'd like to learn more about Bu...

Cool Time Pool Time!

Image
"Pool!" is a magic word to the FiveSibes! That one little word holds so much meaning and can make five sets of blue eyes grow wider and Sibe smiles spread! So, to give my furkids a break from lounging inside in the A/C during the recent humid days, I pulled out their old pool from last year (we had two, but they chewed holes in one) to let them have some fun cooling off (the water was clear when we started) as we enjoy the Memorial Day weekend and celebrate the Hu-Dad's birthday! We hope you and your furbabies are enjoying your weekend! If you haven't seen yesterday's blog entry, please be sure to check out the "Patriotic Pets" Photo Contest info, and then pop back over tomorrow for a special canine Memorial Day tribute.  We hope you and your furkids are having a safe and happy holiday weekend, and are finding fun ways to "keep it cool!"
