We #AlwaysRemember ~ K9 Heroes of 9/11

"Within hours after the attacks of Sept. 11, thousands of rescue workers from across America deployed to ground zero to help in the search and rescue efforts. Joining the endeavor were dogs specially trained in search and rescue, police work, therapy and comfort. It is estimated that more than 300 dogs took part in the search, rescue and recovery efforts at ground zero." ~9/11 Memorial & Museum Staff

9/11 will forever be forged into memories. Next year will mark 25 years-a quarter of a century-since that horrific day in history. Babies born then are now adults. A whole generation does not even know the once-infamous New York City skyline with the Twin Towers proudly standing rising above it. We will always remember the stories of those who left for work that morning, or boarded flights, like any other typical morning, never to return home. We will always remember being shocked and horrified when we saw the images of the planes hit on our TV screens, unable to comprehend what we were seeing. We will always remember hearing the news reports of the chilling recordings of last messages left for loved ones waiting at home for news. We will always remember the horrific images of a war that struck us on the homefront. Some of us had known people who were lost that day. Some of us know people who waited for news of a loved one lost. Some of us had first responders in our families who rushed to help that day, and in the days, weeks, and months following. We will never forget the after images of the first responders and Search and Rescue (SAR) dogs on what was left of the sites hit. We will always remember the heroes - both human and K9. We will #NeverForget.

Since this is a canine blog, I'm dedicating it to the four-legged heroes, and their handlers.
