Remembering Harley, Our Mother of Huskies, on Her Rainbow Bridge Anniversary

FiveSibes #Flashback ~ "Harley" Our Mother of Huskies ~ 2016

Today's #FlashbackFriday is in honor of beautiful alpha Queen "Harley" ~ the Mother of our Huskies. Tomorrow, September 13th, 2019 our beloved Harley earned her furangel wings . It still chokes me up to remember that day. It was her time, past her time, but after two placed and cancelled phone calls to the vet, the date was set. Our vet came to our home, where Harley took one last zoomie lap around the yard, gave each of the remaining Pupsters Wolfie and Bandit a nose nudge (with Harley, it was always more of a jab!), then laid down on her bed, tearfully hugged by my daughter and me, as she peacefully made her journey to north of the Rainbow Bridge to meet her love Gibson, and pupster Chloe (who we lost just three months earlier). That was such a curshingly heartbreaking summer...losing two of our furbabies and bidding farewell to Harley.

Harley was the pack's "momma," leader, and alpha queen. She was such an amazing dog...and always so strong and the picture of health her whole life. But alas, the hands of time caught up with her, and once it did, the signs became too obvious that her time had arrived. So, our beautiful girl earned her wings at 14.5 years of age.

Harley was a force of nature...and one badass Husky. There will never be another like her. And although she was my daughter's...I love her so. When she passed, it changed our hearts and FiveSibes dynamic in a heartbeat. She left us and the pupsters grieving and in an eternal state of missing her. I take solace now knowing my FiveSibes are all reunited again with "momma" Harley keeping a watchful eye over her pack family.

But she will forever live in our hearts and memories.

We will love you for always, our beautiful queen, Harley.

 An excerpt from
"Missing You"
 by Colleen Fitzsimmons

I stood by your bed last night …I came to have a peep.
I could see that you’d been crying, and you found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
“It’s me. I haven’t left you. I’m well, I’m fine, I’m here”.
I was close to you at breakfast… I watched you pour your tea.
You were thinking of the many times your hands reached down to touch me.
I was with you at my grave today… you tend to it with such care.
I want to reassure you. That I’m not lying there.
I walked you towards the house as you fumbled for the key.
I gently put my paw on you…I smiled and said, “It’s me”.
You looked so tired as you sank into your chair.
I tried so hard to let you know that I was sitting there.
It’s wonderful for me to be so near you everyday,
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there quietly, then smiled…I think you knew
That in the stillness of the evening I was very close to you.
