FiveSibes Tips on National Pet Fire Safety Day & How To Get A Pet Safety Sticker Pack

Updated July 15, 2026

Today is National Pet Fire Safety Day and an excellent time to go over some safety tips and talk about how to not only keep our pets safe, but also how to keep them safe from starting fires.

What is Pet Fire Safety Day?

In 2007, The American Kennel Club (AKC) and ADT Security Services joined together and the first Pet Fire Safety Day debuted. This is a very important awareness day to remind us all about having a plan in place for our pets' safety should a fire ever occur, and ways to pet fireproof  your residence.

Whether one has five Siberian Huskies like me, or just one pet, I truly believe one of the most important things you can do for your and your pet is to enroll in a Pet CPR and First Aid Course. I absolutely did and the peace of mind being certified gave me was priceless. (Being a mom, and caregiver to my elderly mother, I was also certified in human First Aid &CPR). It's well worth your time and money to become certified because one never knows when an emergency situation may arise, or how long it will take to get your pet help. Today, many fire departments have pet oxygen masks, but many still do not. Time is of the essence in an emergency, so being trained is an excellent way of being prepared.

While you can check around for courses in your area, including ones from the American Red Cross (where I was trained), I had met and had the opportunity to interview Paul Rinelli, owner and instructor at New York's Paws N Claws 911 Pet CPR, First Aid and Care Training, who also honored us here at FiveSibes by "adopting" two Huskies as staff demo dogs, which he named after my boys: Gibson and Wolfgang (Wolfie)! You can read all about that in my previous post HERE.

Tune in below to listen to my special edition of "The Sibe Vibe" podcast where I spoke to Tom about the importance of Pet First Aid and CPR...

While I don't believe in reinventing the wheel, I do believe in sharing important info, such as my infographic with some important pet safety tips...

2026 ADDENDUM CAUTION: Most recently in the news a dog was captured on a home camera counter surfing and while doing so, accidentally turned on the homeowner's toaster oven and tragically the house caught fire and several pets perished. If your dogs are loose in your home, and not crated, please UNPLUG your appliances.

Some Heroic Stories of Firefighters Saving the Lives of Huskies...

A Mom and Her Puppies Saved!

I previously did a story on "Nanuk" who was saved by firefighters from a house fire in 2014. Lucky for Nanuk, he had a happy ending and even was able to go back and meet the heroic firemen who saved his life by administering oxygen to the badly injured Husky. Pictured below is Nanuk after his recuperation with several members of the Los Angeles Fire Department who saved him.

Below is my "The Sibe Vibe" podcast featuring Nanuk's story, where my co-host and producer Robert Forto talk with Nanuk's hu-mom, Doris Peraza, and Samira Mahjoub Tapia, the neighbor who saw the fire and rushed over to help the Peraza’s dogs. Also a hero!
