#FBF: Watch Dogs
Our FiveSibes were definitely "watch dogs" -- however, not in the traditional sense! Previous to having Siberian Huskies, I've had German Shepherd mixes and a retired New York City Police Department drug-sniffing K9 that was a German Shepherd, and they were all watch dogs in the traditional sense of being amazing protectors.
Our Harley, Gibson, and pupsters Wolfie, Chloe, and Bandit were great watch dogs (oh, chuckle, chuckle... If you know Siberian Huskies, you know they just as soon lick someone rather than protect!) So, you may be asking yourself how then were they such great "watch dogs?" Well...my Huskies all loved to...
- WATCH for squirrels 👀
- WATCH for opossums 👀
- WATCH for birds 👀
- WATCH for the cats 👀
- WATCH the fridge 👀
- WATCH as I cooked 👀
- WATCH while we ate 👀
- WATCH for snacks 👀
- WATCH for fetch-it balls & tug toys 👀
- WATCH the door to go out 👀
- WATCH for snow in the winter 👀
- WATCH for hose/pool in the summer 👀
- WATCH packages that arrived for toys & treats 👀
- WATCH (and snoopervise) — as pictured above in today's flashback! I took this photo of them while our pool being put in the backyard, and they kept a close eye on the workers! 👀

We are the same. We're Watch Cats!!
ReplyDeleteNeighborhood watch is a serious task!
ReplyDeleteHi there! We are going to join your blog hop, by posting a link to an older post…hope this “Flashback” is okay?
ReplyDeleteI love the picture, my collies are watchdogs too…much to my neighbors chagrin! Two are obsessed with watching for squirrels, it’s almost like it’s their calling!
Nili watches the world go by from the window and barks at every dog BOL, Mom aint happy with the barking but she is happy so I keep quiet. She also loves watching get the squeaky toys going so she can chase and squeak them also. A very busy little girl
ReplyDeleteHenry LOVES to watch (and sniff the air, in case he's not seeing something, he'll smell it). He'll sit on the porch and watch the butterflies, bunnies, birds, chipmucks, squirrels, cars. But if there's a lizards, he must chase it. The funny thing is the lizards just play with him anymore because they know he's not going to hurt them. He'll only chase. So, they wait for Henry to see them, let him get within inches, then run. It's hysterical! But the truly funny part is the lizards will go left and Henry goes right. He reminds me of Elmer Fudd chasing Bugs Bunny.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great photo and memory! Love the flashbacks with your beautiful Pack! Thanks for sharing and making me smile. I always look forward to your flashback photos and memories. I'm sharing with all my dog parents so they can smile as well.
Nice to know they took those jobs seriously!! My dogs were great at watching me cook chicken for them!
ReplyDeleteYour watch list had me in fits. I know my cats must have their own list hidden in their paws LOL!! That photo is so sweet too, they remind me of Doug the dog in the movie 'Up' SQUIRREL!!!

Our cats watch, too, for bugs to chase.
ReplyDeleteHow cute they all were! My Husky, Icy is the same kind of watchdog - she and Phoebe used to love getting up on the bench in front of our NY house's big picture window and watch the people, squirrels, birds, etc. Sadly, we only have a tiny window next to the door in our current house so she can't see as much. Jessie, on the other hand, is a serious watchdog! She goes Crazy when anyone is at or near the house. The barking is often annoying and a bit too "extra" LOL! But I am glad she's a good watchdog!
