The Love Between A Boy and His Dog on a #FlashbackFriday

"One of the greatest gifts we receive from dogs
is the tenderness they evoke in us."
~Dean Koontz

Today's #FlashbackFriday photo is a pretty recent one,  and a very special one from this past June. The joy it gives me to watch the amazing bond between my boy, Wolfie, and my grandson is something quite wonderful. (If you ask my grandson, Wolfie is his dog)! It just swells my heart with love and pride.

Wolfie, who once shared his life with a pack family of four other Siberian Huskies consisting of two littermates (Chloe and Bandit), an older sibling (Gibson), and an "adoptive" momma (Harley), has finally settled into his new life of being the solo Husky in our household. What helped him in what was a very devastating time and difficult transition to lone dog? The love and affection he received from my grandson.

I know dogs. I especially know MY dog. His whole demeanor changes when my grandson is around. Where my grandson goes, Wolfie wants to be there. I once heard someone say Huskies do not make good family dogs. Ridiculous! I will beg to differ every time I hear this. All of my Huskies were amazing family dogs--to us and to each other. If you know the history of the Siberian Husky, you know it's basically in their DNA to be family dogs.  And Wolf has bonded with not only my grandson, but also with my little granddaughter. He is a gentle dog, even at 13.5 when some dogs may become grumpy due to arthritis, etc., but Wolfgang just seems to love being where the kids are, especially his human best friend--my grandson.

Having been raised around dogs, animals of all kinds actually, I do believe it is a special and healthy relationship for kids develop with pets. I'm a dog and a horse person, and have had my share of special relationships that will live on forever in my heart.

The lessons I learned from my dogs, Gibson in particular, are so valuable. And to see this developing with my Wolf and grandkiddos, is so special. All four of my Sibes (Gibson was at the Rainbow Bridge at this point in time) were so good with my grandson from the moment he was brought home from the hospital, but it was always Wolfie and his sister Chloe who seemed to be the best. Bandit was always eager to play and lick, but Chloe and Wolf were calm and accepting right from infancy. Harley loved to come over and sniff and want to play Husky-style, but it's been Wolf--who is a senior dog--who has been steady from infancy to toddlerhood to young boy.

My grandson is a pretty amazing boy. Wolfie is a pretty amazing Husky. And this  week's heartwarming picture of my grandson and my dog, along with Dean Koontz quote, pretty much says it all--especially when I hear my grandson say, "Wolfie, I love you."  ❤️
