Woo! How did you all spend your National Dog Day yesterday? It was pretty hot and humid here still, so today (when my glasses fogged up from the humidity as soon as I stepped outside), we decided to forego sweating outside while the grandkiddos and Wolfie splashed in the kiddie dog pool and opted for all of us hiding in the a/c most of day! Wolfie *thought* he wanted to go outside for our usual play and hang time, but immediately did an about face, staring at the sliding door willing it to open back up to the cool house! I was right behind him!
While here at FiveSibes I believe every day is a dog day when you have one as part of your family, August 26th is an actual designated dog holiday! Now, if you're not familiar with this special day, we'll give you a little background!
National Dog Day was founded in 2004 by pet lifestyle expert and author Colleen Paige. According to Colleen, "National Dog Day celebrates all breeds, mixed and pure and serves to
help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to
be rescued each year, either from public shelters, rescues and pure
breed rescues.
National Dog Day honors family dogs and dogs that work selflessly to
save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort. Dogs put their lives on the
line every day - protecting our families and homes, for their law
enforcement partner, for their blind companion, for the disabled, for
our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs and helping to
locate and rescue victims of accidents and tragedy."

~Colleen Paige, Founder of National Dog Day
Colleen created National Dog Day "to honor dogs more than we currently do, to give them 'a
day,' to show deep appreciation for our long connection to
each other - for their endearing patience, unquestioning loyalty,
for their work, their capacity for love and their ability to
impact our lives everyday in the most miraculous ways.
National Dog Day wishes to encourage dog ownership of all
breeds, mixed and pure - and embraces the opportunity for all dogs to
live a happy, safe and 'abuse-free life'."
Rescue & Shelters & Nonprofit Animal Assist Organizations Check This Out!
Something new and big is happening over on Colleen's NationalDogDay.com site! If you have "an animal rescue/shelter or a
nonprofit program or organization that assists animals and people... Join
our family and become a fescue partner today!"
Now, what exactly does that mean, you may be asking. According to Colleen, become a rescue partner "not only offers additional exposure for the animals in your care or your mission to help animals and people, all year long,
but it provides additional opportunities for promotion of your
long-time canine residents, special events, campaigns through our social
media platform and special features on our homepage and through our
newsletter."

For today's #FlashbackFriday, I'm giving a loving nod to my full beautiful FiveSibes pack family in one of my first group photos of them, dating back to circa 2008, when the pupsters Wolfgang, Chloe, and Bandit were just year-old pups and our alpha queen Harley was three, and Gibson was two! Boy, I sure do miss the other four. Life is so very different now for me and Wolfie without them. I cherish all my years with them. I always say I love flashbacks as these precious memories for me are like visits for my heart.
