FBF: Krewe of FiveSibes Celebrate Mardi Gras!
March is such a hopeful month - with the thaw beginning to happen, longer days, and the sounds of birds tweeting, it give us and dogs a sense of excitement for what's ahead - Spring! A wonderful time for getting outside more and going for hikes and walks with your furry best pal(s).
It's also a time for Mardi Gras, or "Fat Tuesday" ~ and if you're a pup, it means yummy treats!
This year, our #Flashback photo is from 2012, when I dressed up my Gibson, Harley, Wolfie, Bandit, and Chloe in all the bright colors of purple, green, and gold! If you've been following us all through the years, you'll already know that my Fab Five were always up for a fun time, especially if it involved treats! Now, they were not ones to wear costumes, but they sure obliged me and wore Gold (kingly status and power), Purple (justice and loyalty), and Green (faith) in masks and beads for a fun photoshoot!
Each year, a "Krewe" or a social organization that puts on a march or parade, pageants, or balls for Mardi Gras. The Krewe of Barkus is an official krewe of Mardi Gras and it's a dog's parade! Their motto in 2012 was "Humane Treatment for All of God's Creatures."
That's a motto we wish for all animals everywhere.
Did you know there's also a Krewe of Barkus and Meoux? (Dogs and cats!) Their mission is, "To develop, foster, and promote programs to benefit abused, neglected and homeless animals." You can check them out on their Facebook page HERE.
I dubbed mine the Krewe of FiveSibes, and they were always ready to have a ball! (Excuse the pun!)
While Mardi Gras 2025 was this past Tuesday, did you know that they are holding a PHOTO CONTEST?! Woo, yes! You have until March 11th to submit your photo memories from Mardi Gras, or if you were in New Orleans, from your visit. Was your dog or cat in the Krewe of Barkus and/or Meoux? How cool would it be to have a pet's photo win? For all the deets and the prizes, visit HERE.

In 2015, I was pleased to share this slide show of Texas Sled Dog Rescue (TSDR) I created based on photos from TSDR and Lillian McKee. Beautiful TSDR Huskies and Malamutes marched in the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux in Galveston,Texas benefiting the Galveston Island Human Society. So in the fun spirit of Mardi Gras, I'm sharing this video slideshow again - on it's 10th anniversary!

Fun memories.
ReplyDeleteWhat a happy and fun flashback! I'm from NOLA and used to march in parades when I was young. There is also a canine parade in Baton Rouge, the Krewe of Mutts.
ReplyDeleteThose sweeties were all so darn cute!
