Newsy Tuesday: Book Nook Time! Reviewing "A Mission For Molly"
This book review is in perfect time for Purple Day® for (K9) Epilepsy! A Mission For Molly, written by Julie Ann Nettifee, RVT, MS, VTS (Neurology) and illustrated by Julie MacMonagle, is based on the real life of Epi-dog (dog with epilepsy) of "Molly," the beautiful English Setter, and newly retired U.S. veteran Willard Moore, who was searching for, and found her in a shelter.
As Willard tells me, when their eyes met, they knew they were meant for each other. The question of "Who rescued Who?" truly fits this duo after Willard adopted her and brought her back home where his wife was waiting and they began their happy life together.
Molly bonded pretty quickly with Willard. Then one day, on a "breezy Carolina afternoon," as the story unfolds, Molly had her first seizure, and shortly after was diagnosed by their veterinarian with epilepsy.
Willard did not know if this was why Molly was left at the shelter, but what he did know...he would never return her, and especially not for having seizures. As the seizures continue, Willard sought out advice from the Companion Animal Epilepsy Lab at the North Carolina State University-College of Veterinary Medicine (NCSU-CVM) and Molly soon began her work in some clinical studies there.
In Molly's name, Willard began the "Mission For Molly," providing outreach and education at his booth on Canine Epilepsy at various events, where a "ripple effect" began in helping other Epi-dog caregivers, while raising funds for Molly's Seizures Study Fun at NCSU-CVM.
This book includes photographs, as well as some beautiful illustrations created by Julie MacMonagle. It has been printed on high-quality glossy paper and wonderful addition to anyone's library who has shared life with an Epi-dog, or who simply loves a good dog story.
If you'd like to get a copy of this lovely, heartfelt and informative book—which was created as a fundraiser for Canine Epilepsy research at the Companion Animal Epilepsy Research Lab at the NCSU-CVM—a $30 donation is appreciated, and will go directly to the Molly's Seizure Study Fund.
