And The Survey Says...Participants Needed For A Veterinary Nutrition Canine Feeding Study!

We here at FiveSibes are sharing this open letter from Julie Nettifee, RVT, MS, VTS (Neurology) at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine (NCSU-CVM), announcing that their Nutrition Service is seeking participants for a Veterinary Nutrition Canine Feeding Study. Please read her letter and if you would care to particpate and fill out their survey, the link to the survey is below.

From NCSU's Julie Nettifee, RVT, MS, VTS:

Dear Pet Owner:

NC State Veterinary Nutrition is committed to furthering our understanding of the influences impacting the purchasing of diets for our canine companions, and we hope that you can help us do so by completing a brief online survey for research purposes!

With the increasing diet options for our canines, we hope you will take a few minutes to help us understand factors influencing dog owner’s decisions about what they feed their pet and why. We’ll ask you about what you feed your dog and why as well as a few questions about yourself. We expect that this online survey will take 5-10 minutes.

Participation Requirements

To participate, you must be 18 years of age or older, live in the United States, and own at least one dog. Participating is minimal risk, strictly voluntary, and there’s no direct benefit or compensation for you if you participate. Choosing to participate or not will not affect the care you receive if you use an NC State University veterinarian or the NC State University veterinary hospital.

**All survey responses will be handled with care and we will not seek to re-identify you or your pet from the survey data.**

If you would like to participate, please click the link below to access the online consent form and survey.

  4. I took the survey, it was interesting. It seems like a marketing survey for a pet food company. If you wanted to provide any feedback to them on the survey I have two comments: First, when it asks the person's age they should provide a response of "prefer not to say" as they did w/ the income question. I never give out my age or date of birth, that's information fraudsters love to get their hands on! Second, I found question #15 confusing. I got that we were supposed to physically move the questions around but I didn't understand many of the response options! They should make them more clear, I didn't know what some of them actually meant - "hydrolyed"?? What the heck does that mean LOL! I moved one item to the top but that's all I did since I didn't understand all the options. I read ingredient labels & look for simple protein sources like chicken, fish, beef and make sure they're at the very top of the ingredients listed. I look to see there isn't crap on the list. That's how I choose my pet food.

  5. Completed the survey. The results should be interesting. When do they expect to have the results finished? Will you post those as well?

I'm sharing this survey as well.

  6. I'm glad they're interested in owners' reasoning behind their dog feeding options. I have put a lot of thought into it before I decided to stick with whole food diet; eventually, my dog convinced me to switch from home-cooked to raw.

  7. A survey like this could provide plenty of insights about why people feed what to their dogs. For some people the bottom line may be a limited budget, for others thorough research may seem essential before settling on a diet.
