Coming March 26 ~ Our Annual FiveSibes #LiveGibStrong #PurpleDay for Epilepsy Blog Hop. Join Us & "Go Purple!"
As Purple Day® Ambassadors since 2012, each year, we here at #FiveSibes in honor of my now Epi-angel Gibson, host a Purple Day® for Epilepsy Blog Hop in hopes of reaching others to let them know Epi-dogs, with some special care, treatment (traditional, holistic, and dietary), along with lots of love, can--and DO--live happy lives just like other dogs who do not have Epilepsy. This year, we are once again joined by co-hosts Jeanaann and her beautiful "Olivia" from Knotty Toys for Good Dogs blog, and Kimberely and her handsome now furangel "Rolo" (formerly of the retired Confessions of a Rescue Mom blog) now @kmatchem4 on Instagram.
I'm very pleased to welcome two new co-hosts and fellow Epi-dogs joining us this year, Tracy and her handsome "Gibbs" of the newly formed Facebook Group, GIBBS-erish...Making Sense of Canine Epilepsy and Jan along with a familiar face to many, her beautiful "Ruby" of the Facebook community Page, Ruby the Therapy Dog!
And yes! We now have a Gibson and a Gibbs! How fortuitous is that?!
Meet and Welcome our newest co-hosts, Gibbs & Ruby!
And I do love the book Ru is posing with!
Also new this year, is it is not only a Blog Hop (for those who write blogs), but also a Social Media share! So just what does that mean? It means you can link up any of your social media accounts (via URL) and join us in Showing Your Purple for K9 Epilepsy Awareness! No accounts other than Facebook? No problem! Just share your pics on our FiveSibes: Siberian Husky K9 News & Reviews page under our Friday, March 26th Purple Day post!
When is Purple Day?
March 26, 2022
What is Purple Day?
Founded in 2008 by then 9-year-old Cassidy Megan of Nova Scotia, Canada with the help of the Epilepsy Association of Nova Scotia. Her goal was to get people to not be afraid when they see someone having a seizures and bringing awareness to Epilepsy. We here at FiveSibes shine the light on awareness for Canine Epilepsy and join Megan in her advocacy, becoming official Purple Day Ambassadors in 2012. Cassidy chose purple based on the international color for Epilepsy is lavendar. In 2018, our #FiveSibes #LiveGibStrong proudly teamed up Purple Day Every Day presented by The Anita Kaufmann Foundation in authoring the #Paws4Purple initiative, the first canine related epilepsy initiative to join an international human organization!
Why Do We Participate in Purple Day?
In 2009, my beautiful wooly Husky, Gibson, began having seizures, both grand mal and luster seizures. Ultimately, he was diagnosed shortly after his third birthday with idiopathic Canine Epilepsy. Our goal was to bring awareness to the forefront so that other Epi-dog (dogs with epilepsy) families had a place to go to so they could a) know they are not alone, and b) get important information & links we have researched, vetted, and share regarding information on Canine Epilepsy in order to help and advocate others who find themselves on this sometimes frightening journey with their own dogs.
What Do You Need to Do to "Go Purple" With Us?
Simply share a photo of your pet or human dressed in PURPLE. Or, turn your photo purple. Write a blog post about your beloved Epi-dog (or Epi-cat, Epi-horse, Epi-bunny, or Epi-human). Maybe you're baking purple cupcakes, take a pic and share it by linking up with us! The idea is to "Go Purple" and then link up with on March 26th in supporting those living with Epilepsy. Come back here when our FiveSibes Purple Day blog post goes live on March 26th!
