For #GivingTuesday #FiveSibes Team Up With ASPCA ~and~ It's a Thankful Flashback Friday!

We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! It was turkey all around here at the FiveSibes homestead, and while my sous chef Wolfie kept an eye on my prepping the bird, he and the other Huskies knew their special Turkey Mish-Mash dinner was coming up! (See my recipe below)!

Thanksgiving is naturally a time to reflect on all the things we are thankful for. We all have experienced the highs and lows of life...from joy to the sorrow of loss. Some of us are dealing with various issues each day of our lives, whether it is health issues, family issues, financial issues, etc., and I choose to believe those are the things that link us all together. To support each other and be compassionate and empathetic through the wonderful times, as well as the not-so wonderful times, is what makes being human, human. And that is what being part of this amazing Blogville community does...its one big supportive family.

I look back over all the years and I am so thankful for so many things--for my family, which of course includes my FiveSibes. For my amazing daughter who is my very best friend in the world (and coffee buddy). For my first amazing grandson. For my always supportive husband (who puts up with all my "I was thinking" ideas)! For an amazing childhood. For the best parents any gal could ever ask for. For all of my horses and days of riding. For all lessons learned, the easy as well as difficult ones. For my true-blue friends. I'm thankful for love, support, and compassion. I'm thankful that while I have been battling autoimmune disease for seven years now, I have options and support. And I am thankful to have learned the skills to follow my passion of being a career writer and photographer who can continue to share stories with others in an effort to help and cheer. And, last but not least, for this caring and giving Blogville community.

To me, the spirit of the season is in giving. This upcoming Tuesday is #GivingTuesday! So what is that all about you may ask? "#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration," states GivingTuesday.org. "Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving."

We know things can be tight for so many, especially at the holiday season. While you may not be able to give a financial donation, please keep in mind there are other ways of giving--from visiting your local rescue to spend time with a pet in need, donating some clean toys and beds, and sharing is also caring, so feel free to share our fundraiser to help!

To donate and/or share our #FiveSibes ASPCA #GivingTuesday Facebook Online Fundraiser, please visit HERE.

This year, especially after the devastation of the California Fires, I am volunteering to help raise funds by proudly partnering up with ASPCA for #GivingTuesday by hosting an online Facebook fundraiser. The unrelenting wildfires in California are putting hundreds of thousands of people, pets, and homeless animals at grave risk. At the request of the Los Angeles County Animal Care & Control, the ASPCA is on the ground, assisting animals and pet owners impacted by this devastating situation. The ASPCA has been providing resources and personnel to help hundreds of displaced animals and pet owners at pet-friendly evacuation shelters. Your donation can have an immediate impact on all of ASPCA’s efforts to save animals when lives are on the line. Whether ASPCA is sheltering animals, providing medical care, conducting search-and-rescue, or simply giving animals the food and water they need, their work is made possible by generous donations.

An added bonus is Facebook and PayPal will match donations for #GivingTuesday up to a total of $7 million! My #FiveSibes ASPCA Facebook Fundraiser runs until November 28!

Not familiar with the ASPCA? "From rescue to recovery to adoption, the ASPCA is there for animals every step of the way," says ASPCA rep Olivia Melikhov. "We pride ourselves in not just saving lives, but in changing them for the better—and none of it would be possible without the support of people like you. When you donate to the ASPCA today, you can help us continue to fight for animals on all fronts." Please consider making a gift donation to www.aspca.org, and bring some help, love, and warmth to pets in need, now, during, and after the holiday season!A fellow blogger asked me how much of the funding actually helps animals in need. The ASPCA states, "We make every effort to be a good steward of our donor dollars, and all fundraising and administration is done at as minimal expense as possible. Approximately 75% of each donation goes towards animal care and our programs, while the other 25% goes towards administrative costs and fundraising.”

So while we all get busy shopping for early holiday deals, today - Black Friday - and on Cyber Monday, maybe we can all donate something to #GivingFriday--no donation is too small, and every donation is very much appreciated to help animals in need.

"Sharing is also caring, so feel free to share our fundraiser to help!" ~FiveSibesMom

And many thanks to those of you who have already donated to our #GivingTuesday ASPCA fundraiser!
Help spread the word about #GivingTuesday by posting your pet's "selfie" pics with hashtags #UNselfie and #GivingTuesday on your social media accounts!

Now...I did promise to share my woo-licious, FiveSibes-approved Canine Cooking Corner Turkey Mish-Mash Flashback Friday recipe (from 2011-wow! Time sure does fly). So great to see my boy Gibson again! He never met a recipe he did not enjoy!

And what's a great meal without dessert? Here's my 2012 Flashback Friday recipe for Maple Pumpkin Cookies! (Note: if your dog cannot tolerate wheat flour, you can use the flour of your choice).

  2. Layla donated last week a garbage bag full on new toys and other things for the fire victims as we were fortunate that one of the rescues was doing a collection and taking all donations up to them.

That turkey mash looks really good and I spoiled Madam with turkey treats also, the recipe is on my blog.

  4. Giving Tuesday is a great tradition.

That turkey mash looks like it was well enjoyed by the dogs. My cats had a plate full of the same meal I had - minus the stuffing

  5. Happy belated Thanksgiving! I've been slacking on keeping up with making treats for my boys. My oldest pup has food allergies so it can make finding recipes for him a bit harder. Sadly he can't eat turkey and a bunch of other foods, but I made him a special plate of stuff he can have to celebrate Thanksgiving.

  9. Thanks for sharing the news about Giving Tuesday! Like you, I have so much to be grateful for, that even when times are tough, I always know that I'm still pretty dang lucky. My husband had to retire this year due to health issues. Even though our budget is pretty tight, we still have some to share. I'll probably donate to my two favorite rescues, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, and the local shelter we adopted our dog from.
