Lovely September Token on a Flashback Friday!

"By all these lovely tokens September days are here, With summer's best of weather And autumn's best of cheer."
~Helen Hunt Jackson

September is my favorite month! It's not just because it's my birth month, but because it truly is a lovely time of year giving us both Summer and Autumn in one month! While still summer for most, the morning air becomes tinged with a coolness hinting at the soon to arrive Autumn with its crisp air and Mother Nature's beautiful palette of colors, a glorious time of year! With our oppressive summer heat wave finally coming to a close just yesterday after two months of the highest humidity we have seen in long time, I am looking forward to Autumn's arrival even more! While long days of summer bring about a relaxing time, when no one seems in a rush and happiness is lounging around with iced drinks and splashing in the pool, this summer with all of its hotter-than-hot heat and humidity did not seem to allow much more than quick dashes between the cool house and the refreshing pool. Our Huskies wanted nothing more than to snooze in the air condition, but even that can lead to boredom on a hot summer's day and night, and day, and night, and well...you get the idea about our summer! Even so, I like to take away special moments from the season: splashing in the pool with my 20-month-old grandson as we listen to the cicadas sing and playing in the hose spray with my Huskies. There are always beautiful moments in every season to cherish and remember.

Today's Flashback Friday photo above is one of those wonderful moments from Summer of 2015 when we were getting pool floats out for the season and I had some fun with my FiveSibes. In this photo, my boy Gibson peeks his beautiful face out from a float and seems all ready to do a little doggy paddling in the pool! Oh, how he sure loved the pool! A special memory indeed, and one of those "lovely tokens" of a Summer past I will always cherish!

Do you have a special moment from this Summer
you are fond of?

  2. September is my birth month too and I love it. A Question, should the Flashback photo feature a pet or anything?

  4. September is my birth month too and I saw yours is one day before mine, mine is 27th. Love the photo and only wish Layla would go in pools but my summer memory this year with her is doing the different festivals

  5. We don't live in the same area but the humidity sure has been rough, so we can empathize. It is humid today too.

  7. Such a beautiful photo of Gibson, and the way you reminisce when seeing it is heartwarming I've never looked at the seasons quite like you do, and I think after reading this post I will have a greater appreciation for what each one brings.

  9. Flashbacks are always fun, especially when they depict a favorite time. I also love September, because I love when summer turns to Autumn.

  10. That sure is a lovely photo of gibson peeking his head out from a donut float! What a beautiful memory. I wish my dogs liked the pool but they hated our pool in Phoenix - Icy enjoys natural waters like creeks and the shorline at the beach. Thanks for sharing this memory with us!

  11. September is lovely! And it seems like so many memories are rooted in September too (probably because that's when school starts around here.)

  12. We love September as well. It provides the perfect conditions for having fun outside. It's neither too hot or too cold, there are no bugs to speak off ... the only thing to watch out for late summer or early fall are mushrooms and hornets/wasps.

  13. Happy Birthday (month). Yes, it is definitely starting to feel more like fall. Wish we'd had a pool for the humid days! I agree it is nice to get out more now with the floofs, though.

  14. Happy birthday from a fellow September birthday mate. With the temps back in the 90's this week, summer is not ready just yet willing to make way to autumn just yet. #hurryupautumn 🍁
