A #MemorialDay Weekend #FlashbackFriday Visit Down Memory Lane

It's here! While Memorial Day Weekend unofficially kicks off the summer season here, it is also important to remember why we celebrate, as my flashback poster above featuring Wolf depicts.

Thank You, Heroes...

Remembering our K9 Heroes...

Honor Your Veteran, Share A Memory

Share a Remembrance | National Memorial Day Concert | PBS: Honor the fallen: Share your memories of a friend or loved one on the National Memorial Day Concert's Wall of Remembrance.

“We do not know one promise these men made, one pledge they gave, one word they spoke; but we do know they summed up and perfected, by one supreme act, the highest virtues of men and citizens. For love of country they accepted death, and thus resolved all doubts, and made immortal their patriotism and their virtue.”- ~James A. Garfield
May 30, 1868 Arlington National Cemetery

Thank you to all our veterans - male, female, and K9 - who gave the ultimate sacrifice in order for us to enjoy the freedoms we can enjoy.

This holiday weekend is also a time to get together with family and friends, gather for picnics and barbeques, open up swimming pools, and get yards into summer shape. This second flashback photo dates back over three years ago and is of my now furangel Gibson supervising the opening and readying of our pool! Ahh...I'm ready to go in, how about you?!

Please be sure to take extra care to keep beloved pets safe while enjoying some early summer fun. This third flashback photo is from several years ago of our Harley as a cover dog model for American Pet Magazine, along with some of our FiveSibes holiday safety tips:

Pin Me!

Light a candle for a fallen veteran,
human and K9,
say "thank you" to a living veteran,
and have a safe and happy

  1. Love this flashback Friday! Gibson looks about ready to hop in the pool and thanks for sharing your Memorial weekend safety tips. I didn't even realise it was a holiday there, thought it was only here in the UK. Boy am I out of touch with my former homeland!! Have a great weekend with your pups.

  5. People sometimes disapprove of people getting together and enjoying Memorial Weekend but it is the reason these women and men fought for their country, for the ordinary things, the safety, the cats and dogs at home being themselves - without worry.

My respects to your servicemen and women. Have a good and blessed weekend.

  11. So important to remember the canine heroes. Every dog is a hero at heart, even though not all get to show it in battle.

  12. We hope you have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend while you remember the importance of the day. This week will be Truffle's 7th birthday, so I will have lot of kitten photos of her on her BD.

  13. Happy Memorial Day, Y'all! I love reading & watching stories of how dogs are helping & supporting our veterans. If would be great if, next year, a whole mess of bloggers tackled this topic on the same day last year!

  14. It's always important to remember the reason we celebrate. Not in the US so not a holiday for us ... but we have similar days set aside.

  15. Happy Memorial Day to you guys as well! On my facebook page I'm flashing back to when I visited Andersonville, GA last summer. This is the deadliest POW camp during the Civil War. In about a years time there was over 13,000 deaths. It's a sad reminder how far this country has come.

  16. We owe a lot to our veterans (canines and humans alike!) I hope you have an enjoyable Memorial Day!
