Happy National Pet Day!

Woo! While every day is Pet Day here at FiveSibes, today, April 11tth, is the official National Pet Day, founded by Colleen Paige, a pet and family lifestyle expert and animal welfare advocate.

"Make a Shelter Pet's Day ~
Visit, Foster, Adopt, or Donate!"
~Dorothy Wills-Raftery, Author & FiveSibesMom

One of my fave FiveSibes pics
How did we spend the day here at FiveSibes? Just hanging out together! We reminisced about the days when my boy Gibson was here and the fun pack family shenanigans that took place, with his talking "I love you!" while doing his famous Gibbie Hip-Hop dance! Harley, Wolf, Chloe, and Bandit munched on treats. Their ortho beds had a nice spring cleaning. And, as you see pictured above, we packed up a bag full of new and very gently used dog toys that we donated to our local shelter to bring a little joy to homeless dogs in our community. It's important on days like this especially to think of the pets who are less fortunate than our own and remember to make a shelter pet's days ~ visit, foster, adopt, or donate! And donations can be anything the shelter may need, including time with the animals, financial donations, toys for the shelter animals, or needed supplies. Check with your local or favorite shelter or rescue to see how you can help.

"Meooooowwww. Treats?"
Our little boy, Binx, who once was a neighborhood feral kitty, but was brought home to our house by our (now furangel) adopted abandoned kitty Smokie. Binx learned a lot from Smokie and was taken in by my daughter and officially became an adopted, vetted member of our family 7 years ago now!

What Can You Do On National Pet Day?
Visit the official website at www.nationalpetday.org for more ideas on how to spend this fun day with your beloved furry best friends and shelter dogs who do not yet have families of their own! Don't forget to stop over to their @NationalPetDay Instagram page, too, to check out what millions of other folks and their pets did today to celebrate!

So, how did you spend National Pet Day? We'd love to hear in the comments! Have pics? Feel free to share with us over on our FiveSibes: Siberian Husky K9 News & Reviews Facebook page!

"We're not able to come close to possessing
the pure & perfect unconditional love
that animals offer. If we could, we'd have no
need for this day...
because all the shelters would be empty."
-Colleen Paige, Founder of National Pet Day
