The Groomer Man Cometh and Goeth, Leaving Us With "Fluffy," a Siberian Husky, of Sorts...

Yesterday was Grooming Day here at the FiveSibes homestead, and none too soon. While they are brushed on a regular basis, we have the groomer come to our house to give them their baths and in-between "pawdicures" that consist of having the fur (that grows wild between their paw pads) trimmed, as well as having their nails clipped.

The day began with the Sibes all quietly nestled in their beds, snoozing away peacefully in the air conditioned house, that is until I went downstairs and opened up the front door. They jumped up and raced over to the gate at the top of the stairs, their blue eyes wide with realization...The Groomer Man cometh! The horror! As I turned to tell them to "stay," I had to stifle a chuckle at the worrisome expression on their faces! If they could have run off to hide, the surely would have!

These in-between visits the groomer uses a powerful grooming air force dryer (with no heating element) to assist with blowing out their shedding undercoats. If you were watching from a distance, you'd swear it was snowing! Those Husky snow furries were twisting and twirling in the air, covering both the groomer and me in a splendid layer of Siberian Husky fur, as well as the deck, yard, trees, and pool!

Ever see Husky snow furries? Take a look for yourself!

Siberian Huskies really only blow out their coats about twice a year. Okay, I confess, it does sometimes feel and look like they shed all year round, especially with several Huskies. One is always at some stage of the blow-out when another begins, making it seem like it's all just one long shedding season! But that's okay - Husky fur is a condiment in our home! Plus, we have the happiest birds around come winter time when they are all nestled in their Siberian Husky fur-lined nests!

When people ask me, "Do Siberian Huskies shed much?" I chuckle, then always tell them they absolutely do, and there is so much undercoat, especially with four and five Sibes, that I have enough fur to create another whole Husky! Speaking of which, have you met "Fluffly?" He's new to our pack! His coloring is white, with a splash of gray, and he's quite calm. Cute, don't you think?!

Huskies blow out enough fur to create another dog!

I left Chloe's collar near Fluffy to give an idea of just how big this pile of fur is! And this is just from an in-between seasonal blow-out!

The Road to Forgiveness is
Paved With Ice Cream!

"Ice cream? Sure, we forgive you, Mom."

Post-grooming, the Sibes were all very relieved when it was all over and The Groomer Man had finally left. They paid absolutely no attention to poor Fluffy, who was just lying there on the deck floor. They soon forgave me for subjecting them to such torture, and quite willingly accepted my bribe of ice cream for forgiveness! Ah, yes, the road to forgiveness is paved with creamy vanilla ice cream!

Nommmm...nommm.nommmmmmm...

    1. Grooming Day was three days ago, and I just cleaned some strays out of the pool filter again, and saw some birds with some! I think it is like Easter grass and Christmas tinsel - we'll be finding it forever! ;-)

  6. Haha, I love it! Enough fur to create another dog! :) I'm glad everyone got a treat afterwards! <3

  7. Wow that's a lot of fur!! You huskies look absolutely stunning, I have always wanted one and when the time comes for him, I'll definitely think back to this post and mentally prepare myself for the fur and the grooming! ;)

  8. You should have that hair spun into yarn and have a keepsake pillow or something made!

    1. I have thought about that! I do have a little on the side saved, even from my furangel Gibson. <3

  9. We used to have Huskies for years before we made a change to Doodles because of allergies. What great dogs but I sure don't miss all the fur!!! It was a job in and of itself!

  10. Wow, a groomer that comes to your house! That is a brilliant solution. I agree with Nichole that you should have some of their fur spun into yarn. I used to have a Keeshond who blew her coat twice a year. Like Huskies, it felt like it lasted forever and we were always finding her fur. Sadly, she passed away 9 years because a horrible groomer placed under the dryer for hours when the air conditioner was broken and it was over 90 degrees outside. We never find her fur anymore, and that makes me sad. She was a love.

    1. Oh my...that is so horrible! I am so very sorry... I'm heartsick for your loss. I miss Gibson's fur. I can tell the difference of his (he was a wooly) and the others. But I do have a little of his on the side with his ashes and am entertaining the thought of having a memorial suncatcher made with it. I have some of the others, too. Funny how all this floating fur, or "snow flurries," really does bring joy to us. Again, I am so sorry for our tragic loss. <3

  12. What gorgeous dogs! Glad you could bribe them with icecream 🐶

  13. Wow there's a LOT of dog fur to get rid of if you need a specialist groomer. I agree with the bribery though! Has to work every time - ICE CREAM!!!

    1. Ice cream really does have such a high value as a bribe! BOL! Plus, Mom here enjoys it, too! :-)

  14. Oh, poor fluffy...being ignored and not getting any ice cream ;-) I think I may have to try a groomer who comes to the house because with three dogs we have tumbleweeds of fur despite my vacuuming efforts!

    1. I know, poor Fluffy, right?! ;-) I used to take them to get groomed, and my boy, Gibson, could open the kennels and was found meandering around! Houdini Husky! I have to say, having a groomer come to the house is just wonderful. I don't have to worry about leaving them. I can get all five (now four) done on the same day. They are more relaxed at home, and I am right there with them. I don't believe I would ever back to a salon as long as I have the choice!

    1. Yes! We do leave quite a bit out and they love it! I always enjoy seeing them fly by with some hanging off their beaks, and I like to see their nests in the bare trees here, all coated in Husky fur! You know those birds are warm!

  26. Ice cream makes everything better! That tool your groomer uses is pretty cool! I don't think our dogs technically "blow coat" but there is definitely extra shedding in the spring and fall, and our golden and beagle both have little tufts of fur sticking out everywhere in between brushings (which it seems I can never do enough of!). Fall actually seems worse than spring too, which seems odd to me!

    1. Ice cream makes things better for me, too! I love my groomer's blower. It's amazing how much loose undercoat it gets out! We shed here in the fall also, although, I feel like maybe shedding seasons is 12 months long!

  27. Cute! Ice cream does solve a lot of problems. We often get whole new dogs when I use the furminator on Barley, too. Then they float around the yard and make it look like something was mauled out there!

  28. The fur "husky" you made is amazing - so MUCH fur!! And I love that afterwards ice cream is give to all. That help in our house after nail trims. I love the first pic -they look very concerned about the groomer's trip to the house. Your dogs are beautiful!
