A Mobile App to Track Your Pet's Epilespy ~And~ Our #LiveGibStrong Epi-Tip #10!

Have you heard? There's a great mobile app for Canine Epilepsy developed by the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in the United Kingdom called the RVC Pet Epilepsy Tracker! And Epi-dogs all over can benefit from it!

The first of its kind, the app's contents were designed by the RVC Canine Epilepsy Research team members, Professor Holger Volk, Clinical Director of the RVC’s Small Animal Referral Clinic and Specialist in Neurology and Neurosurgery, and Dr. Rowena Packer, Clinical Investigations Postdoctoral Researcher at RVC. The RVC Pet Epilepsy Tracker was developed in collaboration with the Epilepsy Society, a human charity who had created a successful tracker app for people with Epilepsy.
Funding for the app was provided by several sources: an educational grant from Boehringer Ingelheim, Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) Sparking Impact award, and a donation from the supporters of Blu’s Tale Foundation Support Group.

"I am totally thrilled by us being able to support all the
owners of pets with epilepsy out there with this app," states Professor Volk. "Being able to objectively monitor your pets’ seizures and having medication reminders will give some control back to owners and improve their quality of life and most importantly the one of their pet.”

Here's a quick gif preview I put together so you can see a few of the app's pages:

The app is quite easy to use, whether you use it on your iPad, iPhone, or Android. You begin by entering full information about your Epi-dog (i.e. name, age, breed). There's also a medication and seizure log, with easy to click tabs to help describe the seizures, as well as an alarm for reminders (i.e. meds, schedule bloodwork, vet appointments, etc.) , a History tab to input your Epi-dogs medical history, and an online survey. There's also a section for contacts (vet, neurologist, etc.), and a "notebook" section. There's also a Data Sharing option, where your info, only should you choose to, can be shared directly with the RVC to be used in their ongoing research into Canine Epilepsy.

 one of their pet.”
~Professor Holger Volk, Royal Veterinary College

All data sharing info is kept on an anonymous basis. “By offering owners the opportunity to share their records directly with us at RVC, we hope they will feel a part of better understanding Canine Epilepsy by contributing to future research in this simple way,” states Dr. Packer.

But what's really cool about this app, is that you can export the seizure and medication logs, as well as any general information, to be Emailed as a PDF document to your veterinarian, or to yourself to be printed and kept as a hard copy journal file or brought with you to your vet visits.

The app is available for FREE download for iPads and iPhones from the Apple iTunes App Store, and from Google Play for folks with Android phones.

Dr. Packer, adds,  “We hope this app will be a great help to owners, but also to all the vets managing this challenging condition in their practices, who will be able to receive full records of their patients’ seizures, medication and history at the click of a button.”

"Woo! A great app to keep all Epi-pet files in one place!"
