FiveSibes #GetTough on National Dog Fighting Awareness Day (NDFAD) & Giveaway

Bandit says, "#GetTough!"
Today is National Dog Fighting Awareness Day (NDFAD) and we have joined the ASPCA, who has teamed up with professional wrestler and animal lover AJ Lee to "ask animal advocates across the country to get tough on dog fighting."

According to the ASPCA.org, "Dog fighting occurs in every part of the country and in every type of community. The ASPCA is working to ensure that canines are safe from this cruel sport. Our responders save animals from abuse and build cases against abusers. And at the end of every case, our placement specialists ensure that animal abuse survivors find loving homes."

Harley, Gibson, Chloe & Wolf join Bandit on the #GetTough Team!
States AJ, "Growing up, my family and I lived in very poor, very dangerous areas and dog fighting was prevalent. My dad, who has the biggest heart in the world, would open our home to pit bulls that had been rescued from fighting. We fostered four, and kept them until we could find new homes for them."

We here at the FiveSibes join both the ASPCA and AJ in this cause, and ask that you join in the #GetTough fight as well!

The FiveSibes #GetTough!

3 Easy Steps:
1. Get the ASPCA #GetTough Took Kit, which includes printable posters to share on your social media. Print them out and take selfies with your pet and the #GetTough sign and share on your social media to show your support for abolishing dog fighting. Click HERE to order your free kit.

2. Take Action! The ASPCA has a "great ally" in the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). Please sign their petition to the DOJ HERE asking it "to prosecute dog fighters with greater frequency in 2015 and in the years to come."
3. Learn More! Visit HERE to see the work the ASPCA is doing to #GetTough, as well as information on Pit Bill abuse and Breed Specific Legislation (BSL).

  1. Alert the media! Your local newspaper and television station are always looking for stories, especially investigative ones—be sure to contact them about the cruelty and dangers of dog fighting.

  2. Call or write your local law enforcement department and let them know that investigating dog fighting cruelty should be a priority. Dog fighting is a CRIME—and the police MUST investigate these cases.

  3. Protect your pets. Dog fighters sometimes steal companion animals to use as bait dogs. Don’t let your animals outside without supervision, and make sure they have proper identification tags and are microchipped.

  4.  Educate others in your community about the horrors of dog fighting and start a neighborhood watch program.

  5. Teach your children. Visit the ASPCA's "Kids and Parents" page for lots of information on helping kids form positive, healthy, non-abusive bonds with pets.
