November is (Canine) Epilepsy Month and Time for #LiveGibStrong Epi-Tips!
November kicks off National Epilepsy Awareness Month and our #LiveGibStrong K-9 Epilepsy Awareness Campaign where we share information, resources, videos, fundraisers, and more to show how dogs with Canine Epilepsy can live full, happy lives. It's also important to let families who may find themselves with a dog with seizures to know they are not alone. There is much support, resources, and information now available to help educate and inform Epi-dog families...and most of it is just a keyboard or cell phone click away!
Gibson and I are just looking for the best way to help other Epi-dog parents get all the information they need in order to have an informed discussion with their own veterinarians to make the best possible choices for their Epi-dogs. Education is key!
So this month, we are going purple! And we do hope you'll check back in for daily tips that you can hopefully share with others so one day the thought of abandoning or euthanizing a dog for seizures is not the first thought. There are so many treatments - medical, holistic, and dietary - to try. Not every treatment works for every Epi-dog, and we know there is no cure, but so many are "managed" and live wonderfully happy dog lives! Through this awareness campaign we do each year (and during the year), Gibson and I are just looking for the best way to help other Epi-dog parents get all the information they need in order to have an informed discussion with their own veterinarians to make the best possible choices for their Epi-dogs. Education is key!
Please be sure to stop by our #FiveSibes #LiveGibStrong K-9 Epilepsy Awareness online benefit auction hosted by AFA - Auctions for Animals (visit HERE). There are currently over 150 items, so many of them donated by amazing supporters, and more being added every day! The auction kicked off for bids today - and will end on November 15 at 8 PM EST. There's something for everyone, from autographed books, to jewelry, handcrafted holiday items, breed decals, cooler collar (great for an Epi-dog), glow-in-the-dark shoelaces (yes, and they are very cool!), dog tags, artwork, holiday cards, even a healing Reiki session, or visit with a pet psychic, and so much more! So bring your holiday gift or wish list with you and do a little shopping, a lot of bidding, and all the while helping out two wonderful Canine Epilepsy organizations - Canine Epilepsy Resources Epil-K9 Foundation "Emma's Seizure Fund" through the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine ~ AND ~ The Wally Foundation-Canine Epilepsy, which offers possible financial assistance to rescues, fosters, and families of dogs diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy.
So be sure to stop back!We have a special November episode of my show "The Sibe Vibe" on Dog Works Radio featuring Dr. Karen Munana, professor of Neurology, and Julie Nettiffee Osborne (RVT) from the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine who will be sharing valuable information about their research and more on Canine Epilepsy. The publication of my newest book, EPIc Dog Tales: Heartfelt Stories About Canines Living & Loving Life With Canine Epilepsy. Updates on the auction. Some very special videos. The Purple Pumpkin Project (Did you send your pet's pic in for our new video? Visit our post HERE if you need more info!) Recipes. And so much more! Oh, and if you use social media, please use the hashtag #LiveGibStrong to help spread awareness about dogs living with Canine Epilepsy!
