Happy 9th Birthday To Our Alpha Queen, Harley! Celebrate by Entering to Win Her Book!

Wooo! It's our beautiful alpha queen Harley's 9th Birthday today! It's unbelievable that she was just a little puppy nine years ago! Time sure does fly! Harley is our very first Siberian Husky and she is what started the FiveSibes! My daughter has wanted a Husky ever since she was a young child and when we felt she was ready for the responsibility, she chose little 8-week-old Harley pup to become a part of our family. Harley joined our senior rescue dog, Chelsey, a German Shepherd/Akita mix. But soon her rambunctiousness required a mate that could match her energy: enter Gibson. And it was love at first sight! They have remained inseparable ever since! We call them our resident lovebirds or married couple! Then, when the three Pupsters came along a few years later, Harley was just amazing; she took them under wing and became a wonderful surrogate mother to them.

Harley is an amazingly intelligent girl. She is always thinking and can sometimes think a little too much! She is a mix of sweetness and vinegar, sometimes at the same time! She may be nine, but she still thinks she is nine months old and loves to run, play "Slide the Sibe" (where she slides between my legs and then "grrrrs" and pushes you with her paws for more!), she can play Fetch! all day long, loves to run through the snow in the winter and the kiddie pool in the summer. She loves to bite at snow and make people chase her. She is famous for her football player-like body slams, and can sweetly nuzzle the pups or play rough and hard as only a Siberian can!

She can ride in a car as if she was born in one...but then again, she

spent many hours on the road with my husband in his police cruiser, attending court tucked under his arm and receiving lots of attention and "ooohs and ahhhs" from the clerks. She can be grumble if woken from a nap, but in the next breath poke you with her nose and give you "snuffs." She is such a beautiful girl (and she knows it!) and her big crystal blue eyes can get her out of trouble with just one glance!

 We had so much fun celebrating her birthday today with a bone-shaped vanilla ice cream from our local dairy with a nice crunch topping of some wholesome crumbled "Paw-Nut Butter Nips" and our namesake "Gibbie Snacks" from those fabulous Vermont, USA bakers at House Wolf K-9 Dog Biscuits!

Looking back, it seems like just yesterday she was a little pup and then a "pre-teen" chasing a young Gibson all over the yard! Here's our annual Birthday video with a fond look back over the years she has been filling our lives with love!

In celebration of her special day -- and with March being national Read Across America Month -- I am unveiling Getting Healthy With Harley~Learning About Health & Fitness! A fun book done in the style of my What's Wrong With Gibson? Learning About K-9 Epilepsy by our very talented illustrator, Michelle Litter. It's a fun way to learn about health and fitness and Harley tries to encourage the rest of the FiveSibes to get in better shape! The book has just gone to the printer today and will be available through our ArcticHouse Publishing and ready to ship in a couple weeks.
