Happy Birthday, Gibson!!!

Today is my Gibson's fifth birthday and he celebrated it in style with his Hu-family and his Sibe family! There were presents and singing and even his all-time-favorite...a bone-shaped all-natural vanilla ice cream cake!

Gibson Les Paul of Mystic Mountain (yes, he was named after the guitar by my musician daughter!) joined our family in April of 2006 when he was almost four months old. After giving him his first bath, he slept on my lap the whole first night he was home. He is my very intuitive boy. He understands everything from a mere look to the spoken word. We have a very special bond. 

He is, has been, and always will be totally in love with my daughter's Sibe, our alpha queen Harley (since the day he came home and she beat him up)! They are inseparable. He is also a really good big brother to the three pupsters, his younger siblings, and the best canine companion I could ask for. When we first added the three pups to our family, I had a dog whisperer come to visit our home. At first introduction, she referred to Gibson as "an old soul who has definitely been here before" and she said "He knows things." I so agree with the latter. No matter what one believes, he is a very special furbaby indeed. May we all have many more years together!

In honor of today, I put together a little slideshow reflecting back on the past five years of love and fun with Gibson, starting with his homecoming! I hope you will enjoy watching this as much as I had creating it (and fondly reminiscing!)

#PrayersForHarley - Dewclaw Tumor

Dewclaws. Such an unnecessary evil for a dog. In August, I noticed Harley limping. At 11-and-a-half, she is a bit stiff-legged at times from arthritis, but this was a more pronounced limp and she was having an extra tough time sitting down. She seemed very uncomfortable. She was also becoming a bit snarley, especially when I was touching her paw, which is something that never typically bothers her. Upon further checking, I noticed an odd lump around her dewclaw on her right leg, thinking it was possibly a pulled dewclaw, maybe a splinter, thistle, or even a bee sting , she became extremely agitated when I touched it.    (Warning: some photos may be somewhat graphic, but I am sharing for educational purposes).   Oddity beneath the dew claw.   Off to the vet we went. Fit For Our #FiveSibes Alpha Queen: Celebrating Harley's 14½ Birthday

Born on March 10, 2005, our beautiful alpha queen, pupster surrogate momma, and my daughter's and our first Siberian Husky,  turns 14½ today! You may be wondering why are we celebrating her half birthday? Because, as heartbreaking as it is, we now know she will not be here in March to celebrate her 15th Birthday as I once had hoped. Heartfelt thanks to Ann at Zoolatry for this beautiful badge. Thank you all who are sharing it and joining paws for our girl.
