Here's to a Healthy and Happy New Year! Ringing in 2019 With Treatibles® Full-Spectrum Hemp Oil Formulas for Pets

Our beautiful pack queen ~ Harley
welcomes in the New Year with wishes that it may
 be happy and healthy!

For me, it's always a bit melancholy bidding a year adieu. And, as we step into a bright, clean New Year, my thoughts go to hoping for good health, happiness, and personal peace and harmony for all of us. We never know what a year will hold for us, and I am jumping into 2019 with positive thoughts, hopes, and plans.

I love this above photo of our beautiful alpha queen, Harley, taken during this year's Christmas season. Is it any wonder Gibson adored her?!  It warms my heart to see her feeling so well as she approaches turning 14. The past few months have been rough on our girl, and if you follow our FiveSibes: Siberian Husky K9 News & Reviews Facebook page, we've shared some of her challenges, that I'm pleased to say, are now healing for the most part, even though she is still not quite back up to par.

Harley has had a rough bout of infections that began in the Autumn. I have noticed that now that she has (gulp) officially entered into her golden years, there are some changes. With her zest and energy, it's hard to imagine her as a "senior" dog. But, it is such a joy to see her enjoying her zoomies, chasing her tail, and wanting to play. When she stops doing these, something is up.

It all began when she had some crazy skin infections at the end of an unusually hot and humid summer that wreaked havoc on her and resulted in an awful skin infection that resulted in some (gasp!) baldness in areas of her back and neck that required being treated topically and orally. Her fur was literally was coming out in clumps to reveal total bald spots underneath. Her undercoat refused to grow back in. In a word, I was nervous.

***The next 3 photos are graphic and may be disturbing to some people. Feel free to scroll past!***

Oh-Ohhhhh. Ew. What is this???

And finally, some regrowth...

I have to say, it has been a long process to get those to heal, with treatments including two rounds of a topical antibiotic spray, as well as oral antibiotics. She's still sporting some bald patches, with a new one today. A few have started to finally get peach fuzz. Plus, she typically blows her coat in August, and is only blowing it now for the past month. At first, seeing the tufts made me worry that she was losing more fur, as the bald spots came out in clumps...but, thankfully, most of it is a normal blow at an abnormal time of year. Blame Mother Nature!

As a result, since it is winter here in the northeast, there are chilly days my northern breed balding girl requires a coat to go outside. At first, she was not a happy camper, but she has come to accept the coat, which she does look very chic in it, if I say so myself. Thankfully, we are having a rather warmish winter, so those coat days are few.

Harley not feeling well.
Shortly before the holidays, Harley developed sudden double nasty ear infections that required samples to be sent off to the lab, and she was put on medication with a side effect that caused her to be quite sick and had a loss of appetite. Not eating is always a concern, but especially with a dog who is 13.5 years old. We had to reduce her antibiotic, and she was placed on a pain killer, but I eased her off that (as she does not do well on pharmaceuticals with her GI issues). After reading many positive articles and testimonials, and chatting with others who have given it a whirl, I added Treatibles® full-spectrum hemp infused oil to her diet via dropper in the hopes of naturally helping her with her pain and lack of appetite. Since she was not eating, the oil was the best and least stressful way of getting her to take it.

I also added the treats to my other FiveSibes daily regimen as well, now that they are senior dogs with new arthritis issues, and one has  noise anxiety (think fireworks, thunder storms, etc). Healthy harmony was definitely something I was seeking for them, and Treatibles promised and, in my humble opinion, certainly delivered!

Chloe also likes the blueberry and pumpkin hard treats!

Harley, my beautiful, sweet, oldest gal is a true fighter. I admire her strength and will. Having gone completely deaf two years ago, she now relies on the hand signals that I'm so thankful I trained all of my Huskies in with their original training, and now she pays attention beautifully to the signals. I also will alert her to my presence by announcing my entrance when she is sleeping by "thumping" the floor to get her attention (which helps to not startle her and bring out her "Snarley Harley" side!) But, when my tough alpha girl went from having a normally good appetite to suddenly not eating at all, I was quite concerned. She has also had two adult onset of seizures, and a third "almost" seizure in the past, and I had heard excellent reports about the use of CBD/full-spectrum hemp oil. I knew one of the medications she desperately needed had a side effect of loss of appetite. And, as any of us who have dogs who suddenly stop eating, you know the challenge of trying (begging) them to take a few nibbles of food, any food, just so long as they eat!

It's been several nerve-wracking weeks of hand-feeding her
everything from bits of cooked turkey mixed with bone broth to finding just the one or two proteins she would nibble on and, yes, even baby food and my homemade "Husky soup," and letting her nibble or lick a few times throughout the day. Since one of her adult-age onset of seizures we believe was triggered by hypoglycemia, her not eating was a huge concern. She usually enjoyed the pumpkin hard chew Treatibles®, but since she was not eating, I switched her to the Treatibles® oil by dropper to hopefully help with not only her daily arthritis pain, but now also the pain of her ear infections, as well as to hopefully avert any possible seizure activity, and (fingers crossed) see her appetite increase. Since she was not willingly eating, I could not give her the regular Treatibles pumpkin hard chews she typically likes, so the oil was fantastic to have. I am happy to report that I have seen such positive results on all fronts.

"Woo! Let's zoomie, Wolf!" says Harley,
feeling better!
Thankfully, she is finished with her medication that was causing loss of appetite, and her ear infections seem to be healing (she is having a follow-up with our vet this week), and *thankfully* her appetite is now gradually returning. What a heartwarming feeling to see her willingly eat again!  And the icing on the cake? When she started to play with Wolf, Chloe, and Bandit again, and engage in Husky zoomies! That's how I spell R-E-L-I-E-F!

Important Read: Not sure what a dog's endocannabinoid system (ECS) is or why cannabinoid (CBD) ? Check out this very informative blog article by a professional fellow blogger, Rebecca Sanchez of The Pet Lifestyle Guru "How a Dog's Endocannabinoid System Works." READ IT HERE.

Important Read: There are many questions floating about with regards to the 2018 Farm Bill, using/not using the term "CBD" or cannabidiol, and hemp legalization. There is a really great and informational easy-to-understand blog article about this from the non-profit The Brookings Institution - READ IT HERE.

Important Read: Portion of Statement From the FDA Commissioner:
"Today (December 20, 2018), the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 was signed into law. Among other things, this new law changes certain federal authorities relating to the production and marketing of hemp, defined as cannabis (Cannabis sativa L.), and derivatives of cannabis with extremely low (less than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis) concentrations of the psychoactive compound delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). These changes include removing hemp from the Controlled Substances Act, which means that it will no longer be an illegal substance under federal law.... In short, we treat products containing cannabis or cannabis-derived compounds as we do any other FDA-regulated products — meaning they’re subject to the same authorities and requirements as FDA-regulated products containing any other substance. This is true regardless of the source of the substance, including whether the substance is derived from a plant that is classified as hemp under the Agriculture Improvement Act. To help members of the public understand how the FDA’s requirements apply to these products, the FDA has maintained a webpage (items 18-23 pertain to pets) with answers to frequently asked questions, which we intend to update moving forward to address questions regarding the Agriculture Improvement Act and regulation of these products generally." "Woo! We really like Treatibles!"

On A Personal Note
I know just how it can seem to be a bit of the Wild West navigating the industrial hemp and cannabidiol terrain, which if you have been looking into it, probably already know! So much to know, from the legalese to laws to obtaining honest and direct answers from the brand to questions, such as:

  • What state(s) do they grow their hemp?
  • Is it organic?
  • Has tests been done on crops for pesticides?
  • Can you see the lab results?
  • What is the state's legal stance?
  • Can you visit the crop site?
Research is key. I chose to add Treatibles® to my FiveSibes daily diet, and after approximately six months, I am very pleased with the results and how much harmony is back in my pups' daily lives, whether they are dealing with arthritis pain, GI issues, loss of appetite, or hoping to ward off possible seizure triggers, I feel I am adding a healthy, made in the USA, gluten-free treat to their diet that comes from a reputable company who uses only organic hemp grown in their own fields.

Hopefully, these important informational sites I've shared here will help shed a little more light on the specifics that can be very confusing to laypersons, like me! It is important to keep up on what is happening on the legal front, and understand why some products may be referred to as hemp oil, and what is the best source. As we know, there is much research out there now about the positive benefits, and we highly recommend having an informative conversation with your vet if this is something you are considering.

So...after 2018 ending on a bit of a wild ride (did I mention I also had bronchitis and laryngitis for three weeks?!), here's to having a 2019 that will turn out to be a wonderful one to look back upon, filled with joy and memories. And, naturally, a wish for all of us--family and friends--to stay healthy, happy, and harmonious all year through!

  1. I love that picture of Harley she's so beautiful!! I know she's had a rough time lately, and although she's not completely recovered I am so glad to hear she's doing better. New Year rolls around way too quickly for me as well. Where did 2018 go, it's like it passed in a whirlwind. I was just saying to my husband the other day, I wish time would stop for the next 20 years while we continue to live. Let's hope 2019 is a wonderful, happy and healthy one for all of us, and a year where we see a lot less animal suffering.

  7. Oh poor Harley! I am sorry she's had such a bout of infections and issues. I'm glad she is starting to be on the mend. We had some skin infections and bald patches with Ruby last year, but thankfully haven't had a repeat with them.

We have tried a few samples of Treatibles, but not long enough to see any results. Thanks for all this information. I'm glad you are are seeing positive results.

P.S.: Harley may not be crazy about her pink coat, but she sure looks adorable!

  8. Poor Harley has had a rough time lately, glad she’s on the mend. I hate the feeling of realizing they are “seniors”, I’m in complete denial that my heart and soul cat Treeno is 12. We’re trying CBD with my oldsters too. I’ve used it for anxiety/stress/attitude problems with a couple cats and seen success. Hopefully it will work as well for arthritis pain since pain relief in cats isn’t easy with pharma.

  9. Oh how beautiful is Harley and so sorry that she had to deal with those skin conditions. Doesn't it feel like one day they're at the peak of their youth then within a blink of an eye it suddenly dawns upon you that they're pushing their senior years.
