It's November! Talking About #LiveGibStrong, K9 Epilepsy & Purple Pumpkins

November is a very significant month for us here at FiveSibes as it is Epilepsy Awareness Month, and a time when we share Canine Epilepsy information and news as part of my #LiveGibStrong K-9 Epilepsy Awareness Campaign. Inspired by my beloved fur-angel Epi-dog, Gibson, my now four FiveSibes and I continue, in Gib's name, to help support and educate families and potential adopters of dogs with Canine Epilepsy with the important  message that these amazing Epi-dogs can live a full, happy life for however lone we are blessed to have them.

With HOWL-o-ween being yesterday, I, of course, brought out my Gibson's purple pumpkin to sit among the orange jack o'lanterns. This year, I decided to fill it with beautiful purple and lavender chrysanthemums in memory of his beautiful warrior spirit.

Harley, Wolf, Chloe, and Bandit all gathered around as they joined with Gibson's spirit to once again promote Canine Epilepsy through The Purple Pumpkin Project (you can also find them on Facebook).

So, why is Gibson's pumpkin purple?

For Canine Epilepsy Awareness! As I've written in previous years, The Purple Pumpkin Project is to get folks asking the question "Why is your pumpkin purple?" to jumpstart conversations about epilepsy.

Why the color purple?

Purple is the international color of epilepsy awareness.

How did the Purple Pumpkin Project start?

Here's my video that helps explain it, as well as showcasing many of our festive and creative furpals - both Epis and non - from across the globe who came out to help support Canine Epilepsy Awareness (you may recognize a few familiar beautiful faces):

 #TalkAboutIt - PLEASE!

Here at FiveSibes we are also joining the Epilepsy Foundation (Epilepsy.com) and actor Greg Gundberg's #TalkAboutIt.org campaign in hopes of keeping the conversations going so children and adults have a better understanding of epilepsy and not to be afraid - whether it is for themselves, their friends, family members, or pets. Education is key! So, please, join us in talking about Canine Epilepsy and how there is much support and information now available to help families who have an Epi-dog so they do not feel alone and scared.

"Woo! Did you put out a purple pumpkin this year?"

Coming up this month there is lots of news, tips, and resources to share about Canine Epilepsy, plus meet some adoptable Epi-Stars! So please be sure to stop back so you don't miss all of our #LiveGibStrong news!

We have been away from blogging a bit as we had a very sad event here. My father-in-law, the FiveSibes Hu-Grandpa, passed away on October 28th. It has been a rough few months for him in and out of the hospital, rehab, and home, all for treatments for his cancer, and two strokes. This past week, he took a turn for the worse, and was hospitalized for pneumonia and urosepsis, and always such a strong man, he sadly, just could not rebound from t his latest setback. Heartfelt thanks go out to those who follow us on Facebook, where I did write a post, and sent so many warm prayers and thoughts. My family is very grateful for each and every one of them.
