Reminiscing About Our Mother of Huskies on Her Heavenly Birthday

 The FiveSibes "Nanuk 'Harley' Mari" ~ March 10, 2005 ~ September 13, 2019

A Bridge Called Love

It takes us back to brighter years,
to happier sunlit days
and to precious moments
that will be with us always.
And these fond recollections
are treasured in the heart
to bring us always close to those
from whom we had to part.
There is a bridge of memories
from Earth to Heaven above…
It keeps our dear ones near us
It’s the bridge that we call love.

 🌈✨🐾🐾

The most beautiful puppy! Even as a young pup, with her stunning dark mask, intense bright blue eyes, and what we called her Canadian flower on her head (nod to my ancestors!) she had the "look" of a future alpha queen.

There is not much more I can add to this beautiful poem other than Harley, as you know, was our OG of the FiveSibes pack—our first Siberian Husky who went on to become our beautiful alpha queen. She was *the* most beautiful, smart, sassy Siberian Husky. She was my daughter's puppy, who came home with us at seven weeks of age, and stole our hearts from that very first moment. I learned so much about Huskies from Harley. When we added Gibson, he fell immediately in love with her (after she came flying across the yard and knocked him  head over fluffy tail into the pool! He was smitten for life) and then a couple years later when we brought home the Pupters Wolfie, Chloe, and Bandit, Harley took over as the queen momma so naturally, as if they were her own (she was spayed). She was, in a word, amazing.

Sending big Happy Birthday wishes to our alpha queen Harley on what would be her 19th Birthday.

This girl loved, LOVED to play. I'd spend hours out in the yard playing Fetch! That was her favorite game, and she could play for hours...and hours...and hours! And all the while giving a fun, talk-growl. She could run like the wind...daring me to catch her, but I never could! She also loved a good energetic game of Tug-o-War! While the other FiveSibes loved toys, Harley uber-loved them and was the only one who loved to play games. Harley was so adaptive. She adored my daughter. She loved her pack family. She was always up for some fun, whether with Gibson and the Pupsters, or with us humans. I used to call her "Snarley Harley" for if you woke her up from a sleep, she woke up snarling, until she recognized it was me! She taught me from her early days to always speak to her first, before touching, when sleeping! My other Five, loved to be hugged and petted while sleeping, but not Harley! You don't mess with the queen!

Harley was the true Mother of Huskies

Harley was tough as nails. The petite, smallest Husky of our five, weighing in at 48 pounds, she was definitely the strongest and—in my daughter's words—the most "bad ass dog" there ever was! And guess what...Harley knew it! Gorgeous.Tough.Loving.Playful.Smart. She had it all. When it came to her time to cross the Rainbow Bridge, she hid how she felt from us, until one day we walked in and heard her labored breathing. Seeing us, she sat up straighter and acted like her tough girl self.

Harley posing with my book about her and our FiveSibes called Getting Healthy With Harley!

(Book is available in our bookstore right here on our site!)

She was also a magazine cover girl! (That's her with Gibson on the cover of Ruff Drafts!)

There will never be another Harley. She is now ruling the lands north of the Rainbow Bridge, I'm sure of it. With Gibson by her side (because that's where he always was), and the three Pupsters running next to them. (Occassionally Bandit trying to get ahead of her, but Harley would make sure she was in the lead!) And, since there *IS* forever snow there...and our girl is in her favorite element zooming through it all, renewed, reborn, and forever free.

Harley in her element out in the snow in our yard!
 Look at her happy smile!

March is a tough month here. Once upon a time, it was a wonderful month full of birthday celebrations: My father's, our nephew's, my grandmother's, and Harley's! Now, it's a month of bittersweet memories as they have all passed. I'd like to think Harley is sharing her joy and playing with them all up there in those forever snowy fields, just like they when we were blessed to have them here.

Harley, momma, we love and miss you more than words could ever say. Thank you for being such a wonderful part of all of our lives for 14.5 glorious years. Wear your wings proudly, and know you as are all my FiveSibes, have left deep pawprints on my heart.

With Love, Your Forever FiveSibesMom

  4. Oh what a lovely tribute to a lovely pup! Those eyes and that Canadian flower! Wow! She certainly was a one-in-a-million! I'm so glad she was sent to you, your daughter, and your family. I absolutely love the meeting of Harley and Gibson. I could picture it as I read your description. Love at first collision! What a blessing she was and still is to you. Henry and I are sending you and your family love and hugs as you recall all these precious memories.
