Winter Solstice: Lighting Candles For Our Beloved Furangel Huskies

Light a candle at 8 PM and join us and other snow dog families in unison across the world as we toast our beloved furangels.

The longest night is once again upon us...Winter Solstice, when the dark of night is long, but also means we begin our journey toward extended daylight. It is also a day of reflection of those who have snow dogs, or Arctic breeds, who have passed and now reside North of the Rainbow Bridge, where northern breed dogs go as the fields are forever snowy.

Says Brad Johnson of Northern Lights Sled Dog Rescue, "The Longest Night - An annual observance, celebrating the lives of some very special friends ❤ I get asked often about the Longest Night. So here it is. About 25 or 30 years ago, I started setting aside the Winter Solstice as a day to remember all the amazing dogs I have been blessed to know. Most being Siberians, the first day of winter, glistening silver harnesses, and fresh snow just seemed appropriate. Then, maybe 10 years ago, I started sharing the celebration on social media so others might experience the same love and peaceful feelings that always accompany the observance. It is awesome how many people around the world now participate every year. I see literally hundreds of posts inviting others to join in, and it warms my heart every time
I see one. I will light a candle, and offer a toast to all of you! Please consider joining us (on the night of 21 December)." ❤ ~Brad

In their memories, we light candles. Here at FiveSibes, I light candles in memory of each of our beloved Siberian Husky furangels—Harley, Gibson, Wolfie, Chloe, and Bandit and also our beloved Sandy and Chelsey (and honorary Husky kitty due to her long fur, Smokie) who have all earned their furangel wings.

Winter Solstice is a time to pay tribute to these amazing northern breed dogs who loved snow so very much. I like to think of my fab five all together once again having snow zoomies north of the Rainbow Bridge...and...in their own special way, they have been sending snow—lots and lots—letting me know they are always with me.

❄️

Do you have your candle lit?

There used to be a site to post tributes to our Siberian Huskies on the Solstices, but sadly it is no longer up. Instead, we share it here on our blog and our FiveSibes: Siberian Husky K9 News & Reviews Facebook page where you can also post a pic of your beloved snow dog under our Winter Solstice post. You may also share your pics to Brad's Northern Lights Sled Dog Rescue Facebook page.
